Ah, yes, the pilgrimage to Brooklyn.

On our visit, we were privileged to be invited into the office of Carey Barber, where he entertained us with his sparkling wit, such as calling sunbathers on the grass outside "basting turkeys".

We all giggled sycophantically while we had our picture taken with our idol.

: Tell us about your Bethel experiences.

I can't. After reading that crap, I just threw up all over my computer, my keyboard, my walls, and my clothes. I must excuse myself to clear up and heave again. I hope I hit the toilet this time. Talk about WORSHIP of individuals and Printing Corporations(tm)! That post takes the cake!

    To all:

Don't know whether to post this here or with Norm's thread about JW's being the happiest people in the world.

After leaving Canada to move to the States, I took a friend and her family up to Canada Bethel and asked a Bethelite elder from my former congregation to give us the tour. He came out when we arrived and said he couldn't do it, sorry. I thought at the time that he was not declining because of some kind of work burden that had come up. In fact, he didn't make such a claim. Rather, he seemed downright depressed to me. And in hindsight I wonder if he wasn't struggling just to cope. I just hugged him and we took the "regular" tour.

I wonder where he is now... And the other former elder & his lovely wife who left Canada Bethel and mysteriously disappeared from our lives? Steve, Steve & Delia, r u out there?

    Stephenw20:
MH Larson is an old, old Bethelite character who was responsible for real estate acquisitions. Never heard of the other guy.

Nice job on the Stanley Theater, btw!

Thanks Lisa for the post. Thanks to the rest of you all too. It makes me laugh to look back at the way r&f worship bethel and patterson. I don't have any bragging to do though. I did get to go on a bus trip to bethel with my congregation once when I was younger. I was excited because I actually got to ride on a fancy bus. That was the most fun out of the whole trip. We young kids had fun on the bus during the ride there and back. The time spent touring bethel was the most boring part of the whole trip.

Funny how there are secret "parts" of Bethel that none of the members that have made the publishing company as big as it is can visit too. Top secret stuff there.

Odd too how the society claims that the JWs don't idol worship. An idol is a representation or symbol of an object of worship ( sorta like ties. ) , more broadly, a false god.

You can see how we all idolized Bethel, the men of the GB, and practically every person that resided at Bethel, just because they did. I remember reading all the post on witnet before it became defunct. Tons of times people spoke these words, " To put down or speak negatively of the society is ,in reality ,putting down and speaking against Jehovah." The word REALITY jumped out at me. It showed that they REALLY think that the society IS Jehovah! ( just as I used to ) If that doesn't reek of idol worship, then what does? They worship and "do obeisance" to the society constantly. It's what their whole lives revolve around.

Shauna, we probably ALL want to slap ourselves for it now!

    ldh;
i am glad to hear that you are happy in serving who you want to serve. i am inactive and have really no intentions of going back. jehovah will always be in my heart though. we all have the right to our beliefs and i respect that. just see things clearly and if you feel that in your heart you are then so be it.
    peace

    Hi All!!!
I am an inactive JW. The last time that I have been to a Kingdom Hall is about 11 yrs ago but I still try to keep up with what is going on with the society. I am happy to have found this site. Once again, "Hello to all."

Farkel LOLOLOL!!!! ROFL!! or should I say..RAAALF L

Im starting to feel like Pavlov's dogs...any mention about how WONDERFUL it is being in the Borg makes the bile rise automatically.

I remember the giddy euphoria when "ones" who served in Bethel came home or the MISSIONARIES came home for a visit or the CO would visit...people positively were orgasmic by it all. If ever there was a place that worshipped its OWN its the Borg. Who said there wasnt a JW Vatican and Pope??

In the early 90's our District Overseer, who was a self-proclaimed "company man", counseled our Circuit Assembly audience about how we spend our vacations. He talked about families spending hundreds of dollars (more like thousands) going to Disneyland or Disney World, but never going to tour Bethel. Then he boomed out "Don't go to the MOUSE; go to the HOUSE". After that, we heard that visits to Bethel increased dramatically. I know our family went later that year. (Disney World was a lot better) Yikes, he was an awful man. I am beginning to get more memories of this jerk, and his "encouraging" counsel to me, after my student talk on the Circuit Assembly that year. I was embarrassed and had to sit there smiling. I told him afterwards that I didn't appreciate it too, and he just grinned at me, like he had really pulled one off, and said "I knew you could take it". (he was wrong) It turns out he was sort of kidding me, because I DIDN'T need that particular point of counsel. But 850 other people didn't know that. Our circuit overseer, and another CO visiting, told me they didn't agree with the counsel. The damage was done, and I continued to think he was a jerk until he was reassigned finally. Good riddance.
