..."Wonder why God should have given mankind the Bible some two thousand years ago, but no explanation for it until Charles Taze Russell started the W.T. in 1879?"....
Interesting thought. Of course the "FDS" was ALWAYS represented during that 2000 year gap between the Apostles and Charlie Russell, but on wonders what "Truths" of true Christianity they carried with them. Door knocking? Did they abstain from blood pudding? Did they preach eternal earthly life?Hellfire doesnt exist? If they had none of these truths between the years 200ad and 1870ad, well, truly, they were a blind "slave" indeed.
At least the 7th Day Adventists have a full thread tracing the carrying of their "truths" thru from apostolic days thru to the Millerite movement. They can trace THEIR "Faithfull and Discreet Slave" thru History. The record is in a 4 volume TOME called "The Prophetic Faith of Our Fathers" by Leroy Froom. About 4000 pages of the most godawful, boring, braindead historical "research" ever compiled by a man over the course of a lifetime.

Great material RF: It's interesting to look back ... and see that the Soceity employes both the subtle and not so subtle attacks on the readers mind ... I like the transition they finally made from "studying the Bible with the AID of the Watchtower" to "studying the Watchtower" ... subtle transition to the point where the Bible was not even mentioned. Thanks again.
'...we have no grounds for approaching a study [of the Watchtower] with suspicion...'

Yes Amazing. Interesting that in one breathe the writer says that without the Bible we "Would walk in Darkness" then in the next breathe demonstrates that the Eunuch couldnt understand the Bible without "help". So in fact, without the "help" we "walk in Darkness" .
Dia.
I think that passage is implying that our minds should be "open" and "receptive" and "trusting" so as to "recognize" thru the "eyes of understanding" and "faith" that whatever the Watchtower says is "TRUTH". Yet we are still told to "reason" and "examine" and "confirm" these things. My, how they tangle themselves in their own utterances.

It doesn't ever end, does it? What makes me shudder is that less than a decade ago I would have swallowed that article hook, line and sinker without so much as blinking! Such is mind control!
Syn. Just a matter of removing a few words to reveal the message in the message.
You now know the truth. The scales are removed from your eyes. And the Truth has set you free.
TheWatchtower is .... letting the Bible as a whole indicate God's mind on a subject".....
If we want life we must gain God's approval, and if we want God's approval we must handle the Word of God aright, and to do that we must study..... TheWatchtower
Having found, time and again, that TheWatchtower adheres faithfully to God's Word, .... we should approach it with a sincere desire to understand what God has provided for us through its pages,

Refiners Fire, Thanks for the light reading.Ever since then,i'm sure you are aware of how they have sprinkled the articles with"EUPHEMISMS" when referring to "FAILED PROPHECIES".(e.g) errors-mistakes-misinterpretations-misunderstandings-premature expectations-mistakes in their understanding-matters in which corrections of viewpoints have been needed-unrealized hopes-misplaced expectations-inaccurate concepts-views in need of refinements-serious disappointments-formerly cherished views- But,never"FALSE PROPHESIES". This is why we dont need the watchtower.BTW.Notice one of the euphemisms used was "views in need of" REFINEMENTS".So why would we need the wt.Dont they know that all they had to do was check with Refiners Fire .Thanks again. Hello All,
Commenting on Amazings' comments about the org using transitional reasoning;
... I like the transition they finally made from "studying the Bible with the AID of the Watchtower" to "studying the Watchtower" ...
I remember when I first took up this issue with the elders. I had read in the "Insight " book where it talked about the star that followed the three wise men, ( magi, astrologers, servents of SATAN, MUWAA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA ), MIGHT be Satans' star, controlled by him to kill the young Jesus.
THEEEN, at book study, I read in the "Greatest Man" book where it FLAT OUT said that it WAS Satans' star. I said "What's this all about?" So I went to the elders ( BIG mistake ) with a complaint.
Well, lets just say, from then on the mountain of cow patties I stood on began to crumble.

You post reminded me of my first attendance at a WT study with my
"annointed" JW wife. The leader raised a very complex theological question and asked for a response from the audience. Having studied all the angles for many years, I responded. WRONG ANSWER! He then called on a 10 year old kid sitting behind me who responded with a complex theological answer to the question. He knew something I didn't know; that the only correct answers were printed at the bottom of the page. None others were acceptable or open to discussion.
