Do dreams mean anything?

I don't normally put a lot of stock in dreams having great importance. It's extremely rare that I have nightmares and also not uncommon for me to go days or weeks without dreaming at all, at least that I'm aware of when I wake up the next morning.

What does it mean to have recurring dreams in which I'm back at home living with my parents and in the dubs? Last night I had a particularly disturbing one in which I was back home with my family in the home we lived in way back before I was 12 and in the dream for some reason that never came up I was going to be killed and they didn't care. I remember hearing the word 'sacrifice' but the rest is pretty fuzzy except for the fact that I was crying in the dream.

That was a new twist. In most of those dreams I'm supposed to be a dub but there's always cigarettes, alcohol, or sex and I'm trying not to get caught.

The other recurring dream is where I dream I'm laying in my bed in my apartment and there's someone either inside or trying to get in and I just lay there helpless.

What do you think? I know I'm crazy, the real question is just how crazy .

    Mike.

Hey mike....I'm laughing my arse off at this! I have the same damn dreams...and yes you ARE nuts.LOL

I have these dub dreams all the time and I'm always still the bad guy feeling guilty.I also have the HELPLESS dreams where I can't move. Sometimes my wife has to elbow me because I start this spooky ass moaning sound .

I think some of our dreams contain deep seated thought's that are heavy on our minds. One thing is strange though......my damn dog dreams all the time. What the crap to they dream about????...chasing cats....eating? I don't know if we'll ever know what dreams are about.

I am just re-reading the book Red Dragon; but after reading your post I have changed my opinion of Francis Dolarhyde; he is totally normal.

I feel that dreams can have many meaning to us. Some can be our mind resolving certain issues, that are bouncing around in our subconscious. Some can just be a vision of hopes and dreams, or perhaps reliving sadness and dispair. I also think they can be a door way into solutions that perhaps we were able to think about better at the Alpha and Theta brain wave levels, our brain dreams at. In all though, I think dreams are personal messages meant for us. In that they speak to us on our own level. Books that say this image means this and that image means that, are taking away from the imagination of the personal mind to realize what it means on its own. Like I said in a earlier post, we speak to ourselves threw images often.

Dreams are thought of as letters from "God ". So what does all this stuff tell you?

KD....that's an intresting idea but.....how can a nightmare dub dream be a personal message? From whom does a dog when dreaming.......get a message?

I loved the book the Red Dragon. As for him being sane,,,,,,,well, maybe I need to re-read the book myself. I can't seem to find anything that holds my interest like that book.

As far as dreams go,,,,,,,, boy dont even get me started...... I have a thread several days ago about my dreams and the patterns they have.
I put alot of stock in my dreams, I dream every time I sleep and my dreams always are realistic and seem to be memories of when I was a child. Of course there are some elements of the imagination or far fetched things but on the whole the themes are clear.

As a dub I used to dream I was smoking and didnt realise it, until it was half way smoked and I wouuld panic,, what have I done,,,,,???? scared to death, realizing I would have to go to elders and hubby would lose his postion too. It was like I dont know what made me smoke. I would wake up thankful it was just a dream.

I dream I am stuck back home with my parents and wanting to get away. Those dreams are not as much as they used to be.

I don't have many real nightmares, but some very disturbing dreams usually when I am stressed.

I think our dreams are a way for us to work thru some issues that are locked away, that is causing us some kind of subconscious pain, or tormoil.
Dreams can take you back to a place you once loved too, like home, I can't go back to my childhood home , but I dream of it sometimes, it starts off good , and I can see the lay out of my house so clear, but soon I am ready to leave home.

I dreamed of my grandmother last night and it was a good dream. She has passed but in my dream I can feel her , smell the snuff she used, and feel her soft skin. She was always a comfort to me, so i think I dream of her to comfort myself, and to bring her back ,if only in my mind for a time.

I totally believe there are lots of messages in our dreams if we pay close attention. I have worked thru alot of my borg and family issues by reading my dreams. Because you can't lie to yourself in dreams, you have to accept the reality of your true feelings.
This is just my opinion, it works for me, but I know some people say they cant remember their dreams , but I wonder if you can tell yourself before you go to sleep to try and remember the dreams and even be a part of them?

    Hi Mike,

I've been exploring this issue in the past few months. After years of not recalling dreams, I suddenly began to remember them again. This coincided somewhat with my decision to leave WTS. I have dreams about former congregation members, also. They are often of the nightmare variety. I understand that this is a common occurence for former cult members.

Most people I've discussed dream interpretation with don't think that a book should be used to define dream symbols, but I personally find in very helpful. I use one based on Jungian psychology, which asserts that dreams are the way we process information from the deepest recesses of our minds. It has helped me to gain insight into things, but I don't see it as the absolute source to be consulted for every little thing. It was, however, very helpful in defining an especially disturbing Oedipus-type dream(lol and you thought your dreams were crazy).

Just a couple of thoughts on your dreams. Your mention of the word sacrifice was intriguing. Have you been shunned by your family, or are you afraid it is a possibility? If that's the case, maybe you feel as though they may/did sacrifice their relationship with you for a religion.Perhaps the cigarettes alcohol, and sex denote your resistance to the dictates of the JW control- all- aspects- of- life paradigm.Maybe you feel that the belief system you were indoctrinated in as a child is impeding you in some way. Death can also signify a major change in direction in your life.Paralysis is a common dream theme. Sometimes it happens due to awakening partially during a certain stage of sleep(if I remember right), and some people think it signifies that you feel stuck in a certain aspect of your life.

At any rate, hope you find the answers you're looking for, or at least can put your mind to rest:)

I have found that all the people I know personally who have left the borg have dreams like that. They are what is called "Release dreams" It is our way of self therapy. One can not walk away from something that was such a big part of one's life and have no after affects. It all comes out in our dreams. When we have had enough, it will stop.

Well, would you agree that the dream is something you relate too. Something that conjures up certian emotions? I ask, as I have often found that dreams about the JW's and even ones about long ago events, tend to lead to other thinking and other thoughts I needed to address in life.

As for the dog, they do think too ... about what? I would never know.

My thought (Not a dogs )
