All The Answers

Billy Graham, world-famous evangelist, has come to Dallas, hallelujah! And the advertising is all over the place. One of the main slogans they're using in billboards and on the radio is, "He doesn't have all the answers... but he knows who does."

Reason with me on this, now. Billy Graham was already famous when I was just a kid. That was like 35 years ago. And he's still going strong, apparently. So...

He doesn't know all the answers, right? But he knows who does, right? Okay, question for ya. If Billy doesn't know all the answers, what good does it do to know who does? I mean, if Billy hasn't been able to get 'em out of him in 35 years of international world-renowned evangelizing, how do I stand a chance of it?

And if you can't get the answers out of him, what good does it do to know that he's got 'em?

I think Billy knows a few answers - to some things anyway - as you say, it's been 35 years

(PS: I don't think it's worth one dip-****; however, his daughter, who wants to take over his commercial religious enterprise, needs the money.......)

and don't make the mistake of going there with an empty wallet like my ol' dad did back in the sixties .... or you'll feel a goose when ol' puff'n billy calls out "now don't be throw'n any coins in the nett ...if you feel like giving five dollars, give ten dollars, if ya feel like giving ten dollars give twenty dollars and if ya feel like giving twenty dollars give fifty dollars ... the Lord loooves the rustle of paper money!"

poor dad just sat there dumbfloundered while my Baptist uncle Rex theatrically placed a 50 in the nett. .. (and he was the one who told my parents they wouldn't need to bring any moola. lol Family relations soured from that point on .. sometimes i think dad became a JW out of pure spite! )

Perhaps the benefits are psychologically comforting ... when one allows ones self to be convinced that another being has all the answers, read: power, it might justify the absolution of ones responsibility for the negative impact of ones immediate actions or inaction towards other living things and to perpetuate any transgressions remain unrecognized.

Over the years, religious corporations and political regimes selling the compelling concept of 'mass acquisition of absolution thru unity, or brotherhood of association' has proven to be a highly lucrative marketing technique and neither Billy nor the Watchtower are financial dummies in that regard.

And p'haps Mr. Graham is just telling the truth, Captain. Sumthin' wrong with that? Tellin' the truth? Other than the fact folks don't want to HEAR the truth... and maybe the "good" Mr. Graham... like so many others... KNOWS that... and is countin' it?

Problem is... like most others... sooner or later... there's a 'cover charge' for that kind of 'truth'... sooner or later...
