If the increase were only 0.1%, the 0.7% is good, wouldn't you say? I really don't know, I'll have to ask my mom or daughter.

Watchtower only gives the very peak month for supposed growth which would be September 2001 when the terrorists hit and people ran into the kingdom halls. So .7% is also unduly positive. If it was .7% then the growth without the September 11 attack was only about 0% - total stagnation.

True, although normally it was a summer month when people turned in their time one month, for two months of work. Thus, they counted one person as two people. It was a little known fact, that few talk about. Either way, I always see those numbers and figures as no better then the false Wall Street reports that happen to inflate hopes in a economy that is actually flat. To add, in business .1% or .07% is considered breaking even. Not growth!

Also, how much of this new growth is either witness kids getting baptized, or the ones who faded away and came back for awhile. How much of this is actually real growth, from going door to door and all that jazz. I think non. I would think that part is very very very little growth, if any at all, and could hardly be counted.
Imagine this one their report: Growth from the world wide preaching work .00000000001 %

Well, 2002 ain't over yet so we are a little premature.
However, 2001's overall increase in the average number of publishers was 1.71%, which is way down from 2.28% in 2000.
Here is a good site for JW statistics:
Interestingly, looking at all sorts of stats on that site, it seems the rot set in around 1995.
What happened in 1995?
Well, that was the year that the Society dropped the belief that Armageddon would come in the lifetime of those born in 1914. That must have shattered a lot of illusions!

Actually the statistics for 2002 ended with August 31, 2002. The new service year for JWs begins September 1, 2002. So all the numbers are in but not yet tabulated. The numbers for August come out 3 months later in the KM. I'm projecting continued zero or decreases in the developing countries. But if you consider that 1% for deaths needs to be figured in, zero increase is really a 1% decrease. I'm not a statistician but I have eyes and the attendance at the meetings is consistently low.

Blondie, you don't have to guess death rates. You can look at population growth which takes into account both births and deaths. Based on this data, there growth rate last year was zero or less in 24 industrialized countries. This means that with recruiting and having their children grow up, their work is having no effect. In underdeveloped countries the population growth is 1.5%. The JW growth rate in these countries was 1.7%, just barely above the population growth rate. Thus, they are not faring well in recent years.

Even if they only increased by one publisher worldwide, they would say that it was growth and showed God was on their side. Basically, we see things the way we want to see them and such is the case with Witnesses. For those in for decades, the simple fact that they are over a million now excites them.
