My local KH is called Fort Hill,a very milistaric name.

Any suggestions, what they should call the KH instead?

They can't call it after the estate(Winklebury) because it has milistaric/pagan connections!

neither Basingstoke, because it is named after a man, and that would B creature worship!

    Any suggestions,any1?

    Basing - stoke

In addition to being named after a mere man, this also has drug use connotations, such as Free-Basing, and Stoking up a joint. Drugs were used in Greek pagan witchraft, which calls on demonic forces ... and naming the Hall with such subtle connotations could invite Demons to drive out Jehovah's spirit ... which 'spirit' is supposed to be stronger than the Demons ... but always seems to run away when the little gremnlins show up - at least according to Watchtower blaspheming of the [h]oly Spirit. -

Yes, many congregations in the early days were named after North, South, East, West, Northwest, etc. Now there is a need to name them after the communities they are in like

    California

    Fort Dick

    Fruityland

    Alabama

    Hornyhead Branch

    Muck City

    Washington

    Humptulips

    Oregon

    Idiotville

    Poop Creek

    Minnesota

    Climax

    Ecstasy Lake

    New Jersey

    Buttzville

    Loveladies

    Texas

    Ding Dong

    Gun Barrel City

    Looneyville

Am I crazy, or does it seem that the JW's go to RIDICULOUS lengths to make sure that they are "different" than everyone else? If an area is commonly known as the "Fort Hill" area, that is the logical designation for nearby businesses (including churches). Why not the Fort Hill Baptist Church, and the Fort Hill Body & Repair Shop, for example??

The last congregation I attended in the southeastern neighborhood of Saint Paul, Minnesota (USA) was called Mounds Park, named after a park in a tiny corner of the territory. The LOGICAL name for this congregation would be "Battle Creek", since that creek runs through the middle of the territory and so that's what the area and many businesses there are called. [But "Battle Creek" sounds too militaristic, and we can't have that now, can we???] It makes me wonder what the JW's in Battle Creek, Michigan (USA) named their congregation!!

I don't think it's a good idea to call their meeting place a "hall" because of bad association. The "Odd Fellows" call their meeting place a hall; the Odd Fellows Hall. There should be NO mixing the pure worship of Jeehober with odd stuff, like the Odd Fellows. Same with the Masonic Hall, or the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Hall, and on and on like that.

They are asking for demonic trouble in calling their meeting place a hall, I'm right, you watch and see.

    Badboy,

I don't think that name is so bad, considering there is a JW congregation in New York named Babylon.

And Francois, many years ago when they did not have a hall to meet in they did meet at an Odd Fellows hall in town. lol

I will confirm that, IW, that JWs rented space from the OddFellows Hall in my area back in the 20's and 30's.

    Badboy,

I am really enjoying this fun thread!

Do you remember the first time you had to tell someone, other than a JW, that you attended the Kingdom Hall, and they said: "What's that?" (Didn't it make you wonder yourself?)

As I reflect back, I didn't see a "kingdom" there anywhere. I wonder if it was always known that way by the earlier borg leaders, or was it something they thought up to draw undo attention to themselves. (Kids might even think it refers to the Magical Kingdom of Disneyland. You have to admit, it's full of fantasy for sure. Lots of neat fairy tale stories. )
