Has anyone seen "White Oleander", with Michelle Pfeifer?

    The previews looked really good.

The book is a good, but odd read, especially since I work for a mental health clinic. We see a lot of foster kids. A couple of folks from the office have seen the movie and read the book. They were not disappointed.

Thanks Mrs. R. I always like to read the book after I've seen the movie, because it usually fills in the missing spaces.

And, sOOner, that's right, you did say you were going to see it. Also, what was that "memory" of yours all about? What did you do????? ( I only ever "thought" about it myself. ) Please email me.

What was that weedy flower plant that we used to play with as kids, squeezing this white juice out of the stem and smearing it on our faces so we looked like ghosts? Or the other plant that had the red juice that looked like blood, so we could pretend we were dead?... I think I'm going to be sick.

The things we used to do.......

I just finished the book......I want to see the movie, but I heard the they left out quite a bit from the book.

Movies after books usually are disappointing for me. I remember seeing the movie "Pay it Forward"......they changed so much from the book. What a disspointment.....

    Scooter,

I just had to reply when I saw that you mention one of my all time favs, "Pay It Forward". In fact, thats where my email name comes from [email protected]

The young boy who played that part is an excellent actor. He is also very good in "Artificial Intelligence". I think I'm drawn to him, because he reminds me so very much of my son at that age.

I agree with you about reading the books first. The movie is usually a big disappointment because there is no way the movie can contain all the information that you read in the book. So much is left out. It's like you watch the movie to see the parts you enjoyed in the book, and they aren't there. Thats why I wait and read the book, AFTER I've seen the movie. Then, after I see the movie, and read the book, then I see the movie again, and so much is clearer to me.

I can usually get my hands on the books before I can get to a movie theater. The closest movie house is an hour away for me so I only get to see big screen movies a few times a year. There is a little grocery store in the closest town that has video rentals but they don't always keep up with the new releases. You all are so right, the movie is usually a disappointment. Good idea to see the movie first, then read the book. Wish I had the luxury.
