Glad you're ok. It must be frightening to even get a cold when you've had heart trouble.
Take care of yourself and make sure you follow up with your Dr. after you finish your meds.

Just some clarifications: The ER doctor said that I showed other symtoms of CHF. There is a blood test called BNP that ranges up to 40 for normal people ... I was 99 ... but the cardiologist said that at my age and with an enlargened heart that 99 was fine ... and that he wold be far more concerned at 800 or more. So, I guess that makes me feel better ... the other symptoms of CHF were not present ... and the Doctor trusted her x-ray guy too much ... so this is where my engineering background helped a little. I still ended up with a low grade pneumonia - so I am not totally out of the woods ...
Mulan, I have been taking CoQ10 ... my cardiologist recommended it to me in July. He also said that good quality red grape juice is as good as wine ... but either if okay as long as I do not exceed two drinks per day. I was taking Vitamin E, but learned that most people do not need E supplements because it is among the most common in food, and our body stores it ... so supplements are a waste of money. My biggest need is to get back to an exercise regimine now that I am feeling better ... exercise is a tricky business with a weak heart ... but must be done to help he heart function better.

Amazing,
Sorry to hear your not well. Physical problems are certainly part of our lot. Hope you progress into better health. Thanks for posting.
Hey Jim,
"What is CHF?" ... She said, Congestive Heart Failure." ... Yikes! That is bad ... "How bad is it and can I go home now?" ... "If I let you go home, you could go into Desomposition before morning ... that is, die." ...
I was shook up just hearing CHF. And all you wanted to know was if you could go home? Diagnosed with congestive heart failure and coming home with antibiotics for a cold, is like being diagnosed with a brain tumor but coming home with an aspirin for a headache.
Glad it turned out that way.

Dear Jim,
It's nice to know you are feeling better now.
Best wishes to you.

I am surprised they did not give you nitroglycerin.
I just came from the hospital a month ago. I woke up in the middle of the night with my chest on fire.
I went to the ER in a clinic, and sent from there to the ER of a hospital. I had had another heart attack. They had to place some tubes in my heart again because another artery had become clogged.
For some reason my cholesterol is low but my triglycerides are high.
Yes, best thing is to exercise and lose weight.
Hope you become fully healthy again.
Jim, so glad you are on CoQ10. It seems many doctors are understanding the benefits of it. And it helps with gum disease too.
As to the other thing he said about supplements, I would say he is prejudiced. Maybe what he said about Vitamin E is right,,,,,,,,,,,,,,have to check that out.
My parents are 89 and 90, both have strong hearts, no cancer, and will probably live another 10 years..............if I live that long to care for them. My point is they have taken hands full of supplements twice a day for as long as I can remember. 50 years probably. I think that tells a lot. In a perfect world, our food would be enough, but it just isn't anymore.
I agree that the grape juice is as good as red wine. A little red wine is good too............Mom and Dad both love it about once a week.
Amazing.
I am so sorry to hear about your health problems. I am sure you will take care of yourself and do what is right, so i will just say........
My thoughts are with you !

Glad your feeling better Jim, take things easy
That must be a scarey feeling Amazing, glad you are doing better. My father in law has some kind of arterial fibultion(sp? or correct term?) and they sent him home. He always feels he is having a heart attack. I told my aunt some symptoms I have been having and she thinks it is more than what I think it I have , panic attacks. But when I take a Xanax in about 25 to 30 mins I do feel better. I had another real bad one the other night and had to go home. I am drinking merlot in moderation, and I am going to take Mulan's advice on the suppliments she mentioned. My aunt at the age of 33 had a triple by pass and my uncle has had 8 by passes ,he is close to 70 now. Diabetes and heart trouble run in my family, so any other advice others have on preventative medicine I would also be grateful to hear.
Keep us posted Amazing on how you are doing, and hope you continue to do well. Dede
