    Blondie:

Yes, I'm going to college and I find the exact same situations that you describe. I just wish I'd gone years ago. I could have had a few degrees by now. But, as they say, it is never too late. One of the things I find encouraging is the ads on the subways here in NYC which encourage college. These ads feature 60, 70, and 80 year old men and women who have recently gone back to college and obtained their degrees in various fields. So I always tell myself that if they can do it at their age, I can do it too and I'm only 41.

And I'm really enjoying college. I also believe that in most cases a degree will get you a better paying job.

The borg took a lot away from many of us. But I'm glad to see that many of us are getting right in there and taking back what was denied us by going back to school and doing things for ourselves.

That assembly experience was full of sh!@#$%!

    NY44M:

Thanks for informing us that the borg is spewing the same ole bullshi!@#$%T!

    Nothings changed.

    It truly is S.A.D.

Do you think selfish JW parents might find this JW 'quality' attractive because it lets them keep more for themselves, rather than saving or planning for their less important offspring?

(Note: They also get out of having to plan birthday parties or spend for Christmas gifts)

The story of the dub college graduate working at McD's makes about as much sense as a football bat. Employers (at least around here) are dying for good help. Overqualified? They'll pay for that. Underexperienced? You can learn. Now maybe it isn't that way everywhere and I'm just going by my own industry (auto repair).

What you had there was a theocratic enforcer laying down the law about higher education. And it really pisses me off to think that so many dublings are gulping that crap down. Someone should remind them that reading the Awake! is just as good as a college education so they shouldn't read too many or they'll be overqualified. (gag!)

    Sad sad sad.

    Mike.

Five of my six kids fell for that bullshit despite their mother and I having college degrees, Hell, even their grandparents had university degrees. I had a graduate degree in Engineering, but couldn't overcome the brainwashing of their JW mother and the assorted elder group of janitors, window washers, Car trim strippers, and lawn maintenance types. The one that listened to me and got her degree got DF'd for not "serving Jehovah", but is earning 2 times what the others earn. They are all out now except one. The girls have gone back to college, but had to work full time while going. It was really tough for them even with substantial financial help from me.

I firmly believe that even those without degrees can make something of themselves, and create a good income.

If this were true, then the "brother" is a complete nimrod, and that is the only job he could land, regardless of his education. He would obviously be somewhat intelligent, but his social skills must lack something silly if he couldn't land a job.

If he was intelligent enough to obtain a doctorate, WHY is he still a JW? Something's not right with this picture.

Rocky, I was thinking the same thing. I believe the Watchtower Society is so stupid that they think people in the audience will not see through this.

I remember this type of shit was when I got up and went for a walk or to the bathroom. It was too hard to swallow. I'm sure my sister who only got a Bachelors and can't move up higher in the field of Social Work because she didn't go for her Masters or her Ph.D. because the "end was so near" has a hard time listening to that drivel. That was six years ago! She could be earning double AND pioneering.

Instead she's working part time and pioneering trying to find a husband. She visits Bethel once or twice a year, goes "where the need is great" and visits other congregations constantly. But she's 30 -- over the hill for a JW woman. All she's going to find now is some old divorced brother with three kids and that's only if he doesn't hook it up with an 18 year old pioneer! OR ... she might hook it up with a repressed gay brother who will take it out on her. OR with some divorced wife beater who was only privately reproved but his wife was df'd due to leaving him for a man who treated her better. So sad.

This story might be more meaningful if we knew what field his PHd was in.
