I've worked for the same company since I left college, for a long time, and so some people where I work have known me for many years. I am by and large still known as a Jehovah's Witness who generally refuses social invites.
I have not spoken a great deal to my work colleagues about my change of heart about my religion, just a select few, although people have definitely noticed that I don't preach at them anymore! The big problem I have is that there are one or two Witnesses dotted about the office block that would happily grass me up to my congregation if I started to be openly "worldly" and so I don't shout it from the roof-tops as I would wish.
Anyway, this week I have signed up to go to the departmental Christmas party in early December, which will be about 200 or so people in a big hired hall. This would be such a normal, trivial thing for most people to do but here I am, in my thirties, going to a Christmas party for the first time ever!
My question to the board is: Do you remember the first Christmas do you ever went to? How did it go? Were you too nervous to enjoy yourself and strut your funky stuff? Did you have the dinner and chicken out and ran out of the building before the disco started? Or did you get to snog that person you fancy from the office? Or, bearing in mind my circumstances, did you get found out by one of your Witness "friends" and get yourself into trouble?
