JWs trying hard to hide in obscurity right now

On other discussion boards where active JWs participate I notice them deflecting questions about the Royal Commission in Australia by bringing up child abuse statistics of other churches, ostensibly to demonstrate that there is nothing news worthy to see here... "move along!"

They are trying to make this story disappear into obscurity, irrelevance, as if it's just part and parcel of big institutional life, particularly of the religious nature. Oh, NOW they compare themselves to every other religion on the block?

Jehovah's Witnesses have spent their lives slamming all other religions as "less than", "counterfeit", "Satan's institutions", "The Whore of Babylon". The Watchtower has never hesitated to decry other religious institutions as slated for destruction at Armageddon. Jehovah's Witnesses will not even associate with non-JWs for fear of getting false religious "icky" on them. Jehovah's Witnesses are the clean people, righteous, acceptable to and loved by God to the exclusion of all other people and groups. Jehovah's Witnesses and their glorious organization are the beaming light of purity and truth, hand selected by God, guided and directed by God, those to whom all mankind must flow for salvation.

.... until they get caught with their britches down and now they want to hide in obscurity amongst the religions of the world.

    HYPOCRITES!

doesn't one expect a bit more from the WTS as it is the organization god has selected as his channel? also they are meant to be receiving this wonderful "holy spirit" and blessing, quoting stats from other religions makes their argumentation appear very weak indeed. Proportionally dont they have a scandal of this sickening abuse far worse then all of the so called churches of Christendom put together? I dont see them recovering from this IMO

    *** w12 5/1 p. 16 What Is the Good News About Religion? ***
    1. Is all religion good? Many religious groups include sincere people who want to please God. He sees those people and cares about them. Sadly, though, some people have used religion for evil purposes. [. . .] Today, according to news reports, some religious leaders have encouraged terrorism or supported war, or they have been involved in child abuse.

    They are speaking about themselves!
They are saying that those who have been involved in child abuse are evil and not a good religion!

    *** w07 3/1 p. 4 Does It Matter Which Religion You Choose? ***
Since many religions arose from a desire for political power, prestige, and popular acceptance rather than a desire to please God, it is no surprise that religion is involved in such badness as child abuse, fraud, war, or terrorism. All too often, religion is a sham. How can you avoid being deceived?

As I've 'predicted' in other threads, watch the organization's literature shy away from overtly itemizing child sexual abuse as one of the evils of false religion, as if it hasn't already reduced references to it over the past 2 or so years.

Even the GB would know by parading it as one of the evils, they risk sensitive readers, especially Witnesses themselves, becoming upset at the hypocrisy.

Some things will change - are changing - in the organization, as a result of legal and media scrutiny. This referencing of child sexual abuse in the churches is one of them.

Armageddon better hurry up and get here or Watchtower won't have anything evil to talk about.

steve2.....I would like to say that in this country, they will not be allowed to shy away. The RC will not allow for such a slippery move. Legislation will be drawn up and money will be taken out of the coffers of the WT. This much I do know about Australian Government. They are not fond of religious abuse's, they do not allow exemptions and when they can get their teeth into "fact" they will not succumb to the time worn phrases that spew out of WT mouths. For, as you know. Witnesses have like to say in the past that the legal platform allowed for a "good witness". Well. What a tragicomic statement that is today.

Trust me on this for I am in the midst of it. The frustration and disgust is very evident. The JW community are in a state of decay and shut down. I have been attacked verbally already. I have made a clear note of that........This will not go away....

Awesome bit of humour at the right time. I really do love it when you people come out with your' wonderfully irreverent quips. Please keep them coming, they were one of the things that helped me in my dark early days of fear on this site........I get such a kick out of this black humour that it restores my faith in people....Of course you do realise that you are demonised don't you?

Zoos - "They are trying to make this story disappear into obscurity..."

If this keeps up, they're gonna be desperate for it to disappear into obscurity.

IMO, the best response to the scenario in the OP is, "well, if JWs really are no different from any other church, where's the incentive to be one, then?"
