Letter to the GB

Don't underestimate the power of one letter. Someone will read it at Bethel, maybe more than one. The more letters like this they receive, the more time they spend having to read them. Who knows at what point one of these letters will cause someone to wake up, or at least question their beliefs.

Recently I wrote a letter to the Society regarding a pedophile in the congregation. I was disappointed with the response. But after realizing how many people had to read my letter, I felt like maybe it was not such a useless action as I had first thought. I know that 3 circuit overseers and at least 3 or 4 elders read it before it ever got to Patterson. How many letters do they get like mine nowadays? At the very least, it costs them time and money to read or respond, time and money they would rather be using to "promote Kingdom interests".

I think your points are well stated and I applaud you on that, but I agree that you get more bees with honey, not vinegar.

What I would like is (and I know this is going to sound really out there) for someone to actually start a study with a witness. Get infiltrated enough into the group (kind of like going undercover) enough until they'll answer such questions as......what about the whole UN scandal? Is it true about the child abuse issues? Have there been times in the past that dates were "prophesiesed by the WBTS, and the end didn't come? See if they can get anywhere.

I'd do it myself, but I live in a small town and was just diffed a few days ago. They all know me.

If you address envelopes to the individual governing body members, and make it a personal letter envelope (not a business one) and to Mr and Mrs, it might get to them.

    That's what I would do.

Or like this: Guy and Penny Pierce (their real names) Write personal, by hand, on the bottom left corner.

I also would like to know what they mean by "... directed by his spirit, but not inspired,..." Do they mean that in general they are directed by the Holy Spirit, but do not hold them on any one issue? That would be a kind of "statistical" direction. The WT would then have to say that "in general, statistically, we are directed by holy spirit, but as for specific matters, we might have to use our human wisdom." This might be what they mean, but I doubt if they would ever explain it like that. --VM44

    No Apologies,

Sorry to disappoint you, but that's not the way it goes. As I mentioned, they get oodles of such letters every day. And I saw what happened to them. Those who handle incoming letters are rapid readers who usually judge a letter by its opening paragraph and a quick skim of the rest. Such letters are divided up between trash and service/writing departments. In those depts., the rapid readers divide them between trash, write to his/her elders, and so-and-so's desk for a response. And they're extremely selective about sending them to so-and-so's desk. If they're addressed to an individual member of the GB, they go to the residence buildings, and the GB members handle them in about the same way. Believe me, they get so many letters--every day I picked up two vans of them at the post office and I'm sure that now they get even more--that they've long gotten used to the routine. So, don't count on a single letter or even a thousand letters to make them sit up and take notice of anything. If circuit and district overseers and your local elders get to see your letter, it's always accompanied by a biased letter from the Society explaining how such men should view your letter. It's mere wishful thinking to suppose after reading the Society's letter that such local men are going to conclude you've made some good points.

Frank, if you sent a lot of letters, did they keep a file on you???

    minimus,

They already had a file on me. I'm not sure I understand your question.

My letters were addressed to individuals I knew at Brooklyn Bethel, not to the offices.

Frank...I meant does the Society keep a file on anyone that sends letters to them?
