I'm going to put up mine as soon as I take my last bite of pumpkin pie on Thanksgiving.

Just make sure you eventually take them down!! I have seen some lazy-butts who never take their lights down, just leave them up all year!
Around here, the Friday after Thanksgiving is the big shopping day and start of Xmas decorating. But I am itching to start "winterizing" my decorations.
In the U.S.A.It is traditionally after Thanksgiving,in the home. However, the commercialism of it start right after Holloween.Blueblades
We didn't start doing a tree until about 5 years ago when the kids were arready 13 and 16. I wish I had done it when they were little instead of worrying about what my family would think. We do ours two weeks before Christmas and take it down right after New Years Day. As I am being shunned this year I think I am going to put up lots of lights outside so they will be visible from the road. I have always just done the inside. Well no more hiding for me. els
The church across the street from my house has already been decorated for christmas. I say go right ahead and make you kids happy. No opening the gifts until christmas day though.
Simon,
I wasn't raised a JW. Most people in the US put their decorations up a week or so before Christmas and remove the them a day or so after New Years. Remember if you have a real tree it will become dry and dangerous to have in the house too long. Christmas tree fires are very real.
Some people may place lights up a little earlier but don't buy your tree too soon. Also if you talk about Christmas too much it will make your little ones too anxious, for too long. A whole week of hearing about Christmas from your children maybe a enough.
I am being environmentally aware and cutting down tree's is murder
Simon...
FYI... just to let you know, there is more forested area in the U.S. than there was 20 years ago (due to replanting). As far as Christmas trees, a very large amount of the Christmas trees come from Christmas Tree farms, where they're grown specifically for the holidays... so it's not as if the forests are be ravished. Here in L.A. trees are farmed year round on land that sits beneath power lines, land that really has very little use. We go to one of these 'farms' each year and cut down the perfectly groomed and size tree, and of course it 'fresh' (and electrically charged, hehe). You can get trees from 2 feet up to 8 feet.
This environmental moment was brought to you be DOUBLE EDGE.
I used to clean for a family that kept a Christmas tree up in their house year round. He was a contractor, and they built this big, beautiful home. The livingroom has a ledge about ten feet off the floor on which they keep the decorated tree, complete with gifts under it!
On my drive to school, I've seen a few families put up their decorations the day after Halloween.
I'm waiting till December first, though, for general decorations(it's just something about the word "December") and we won't get our tree until mid-December, because we're getting a live one and we want it to last until New Years.
