If First Contact Happens/Atkins Diet

I am struck with how frequent and bold UFO incidents are becoming:

    www.rense.com/general32/filers112802.htm

    www.ananova.com/news/story/sm_718085.html

I am also greatly impressed with the recent vindication of the Atkins Diet in a
major study - and what it tells us about the state of human knowledge and science.

What stuns me is that this diet has been explicitly described and debated for
about 30 years - and yet, its proof took decades - with some 'experts' STILL refusing
to believe it is effective without causing heart trouble.

Of all things to be investigated, I don't think you can get more verifiable than
the effects of a diet - you get some people, put them on the diet, measure the blood
    chemistry, and publish the effects.

And yet, the 30 years remains!

What should we expect about less empirically verifiable matters - like ESP,
UFOs, various theories of evolution, the 'big bang' - and other questions that
depend on much more subtle evidence?

I understand that the Wright Brothers flights were denounced as a hoax by newspapers
and 'experts' - EVEN WHILE ANYONE COULD WATCH THESE FLIGHTS TAKE PLACE!

I guess people have to adjust to new realities by 'getting used' to them. They enter
the human field of belief from the edges gradually - no matter how verified they may
    be!

And I have little doubt what would happen if First Contact ever does take place:

The Watchtower will denounce it as 'demons' - and warn Witnesses not to read about it!
I can actually imagine them stubbornly holding on and denying everything in a final
(and futile) attempt at CONTROL! It would truly be something to watch!

    and one day, who knows
the work of Copernicus may be finished
and we will be 'dethroned' from thinking that earth
is the figurative center of the universe
and all revealed religion fades away.

    Met,

No, but you did a hell of a good job at doing so!

Sometimes metatron, you are brilliant. You don't respond to many poster's comments, but you make up for it in content.

    Metatron,

Never mind the Atkins Diet, there are probably dozens of effective treatments out there for various ailments and illnesses that are not mainstream medicine. There is also a large percentage of the population who wont accept this because they have not seen the evidence, just like those who never saw the Wright brothers and for a time refused to believe it.

Mainstream medicine is ok but it is for the masses and does not treat the individual.

Penicillin, for example, is a wonder drug and cure all for the masses, it removes the symptoms but very often leaves the underlying cause untouched.

Whilst alternative treatments may not effect the same cure in everyone, as is the case with penicillin, they certainly have their position, complimentary to mainstream medicine, and this position gets stronger as more is understood about it.

Its an excellent point that you make here regarding head in the sand attitudes.

For me, it's a long road - and a painful transition

I am working hard to make compassion the goal of my life.

Something about the Atkins diet that has always struck me as, "Well, DUH!" -

    1. Look at cows and pigs... and what they eat: mucho carbs... grass, corn, grain...

    2. Look at lions, tigers, cheetahs... and what THEY eat: meat and nothing more, really.

    3. Look at the bodies of cows and pigs: mucho meat-o to for us to eat-o...

    4. Look at the bodies of lions, tigers and cheetahs: nuthin' but lean muscle...

    5. Look at how cows and pigs move: slow, moving from spot to spot or laying around doing much of nothing...

    6. Look at lions, tigers and cheetahs move... when they do, it can be quite fast, actually.

(True, the big cats do a lot of laying around themselves, but when they HAVE to move... well, I don't see any water buffalo (cows) takin' down any lions, you know?)

    7. How strong and powerful are cows and pigs?

    8. How strong and powerful are lions, tigers and cheetahs?

    9. 2 + 2 =...

    Peace!

Shelby, on her own and now wondering why she hasn't started the Atkins diet herself, if she's so convinced...

D-Bear-Man... (scratchin' DB behind the "ears"...) MUCHO peace to you!

You know, I learned a very "funny" thing when I was diagnosed with diabetes a few years back: I have NO problem giving up meat... but losin' the CARBS??!!! Whoa, man!! I mean, it was weird: I had always had a "meat" with my meal, and heard, "use meat as a side dish, rather than the main course." So, when I had to decrease the "true" side dishes (i.e., rice, potatoes, pasta, bread, stuffing, mac-n-cheese... yada, yada, yada)... OMIGOSH... it was HARD to do! I actually had panic attacks and withdrawal!! How come nobody knew that it was the medically-sanctioned "food pyramid" that was killing me?

So, I now only eat pasta from a salad bar (and then, too much!), but I got none in my house. Potatoes, rarely. Rice... well, I gotta live and I ain't ready to give up rice, dang it! I seldom do bread... sodas (diet; can't stand "sweetness" of regular) almost never.

So, what's my problem? Chocolate. Gotta have it. Addicted. BIG time. Need it. Does for me what Coke and/or coffee does for others. Weakness of the flesh and all that. It's a dratted poison in disguise, I say, and fools me every time! Ah, well... chocolate... coffee... Coca-Cola...cocaine... Gotta be addicted to sumthin' that starts with a "C", I guess.

    Peace to you, BearMan...

Your friend (and a slave of Christ - LOL!)

I really don't think the Atkins diet is the right approach to being healthy. Here are a few articles to add to the discussion.

  • Speaking of objects in the sky, last night Elsewhere alerted us to the International Space Station passing overhead...it was very bright and moving quite quickly. Very cool. As far as UFOs are concerned, they are kind of like Jehovah to me. When we have a personal meet and greet then I will believe.

Dr. Atkins himself recently had a heart attack.

Here are reasons why the atkins diet is not good in the long term

You need some carbs. A low carb low cal diet is good.If you completely cut out carbs though your body will start using the protein as engry and if you go back to eating carbs then your body turns both carbs and protein into engry and you gain weight at a much higher rate. Also your digestive system needs alot of vegtables and serving or two of fruit a day. Any diet that takes away these natural things cannot be good for you in the long run. I am not saying not to eat meat but you should eat 1-2 servings of vegtables with every intake of meat. You also should have some carbs during the day. A yogurt is not bad for you. They have also found that 2 servings of milk products everyday serves as a dieratic. I have read several diet books and have found that Body for life and Weight Watchers both use good balance when it comes to eating. You have to be balanced if you go to extremes It cannot workout well in the long run.

The Atkins diet was orignally for people who were too large to have operations. They had to lose alot of weight very quickly. As we all know losing weight quickly is not the healthy way to do it. You should not lose more than 3 pounds in a week otherwise it is unhealthly. What people need is proper diet and exercise. You also need portion control which the Atkins diet does not teach you.

Could you please give me the name of ONE REVEALED religion? I've been putzing around in the religion community for nearly 30 years now, and I've never run across even one revealed religion.

I am familiar with the teachings of The Master which I consider revealed truths, but truths aren't religions.

    Please?

A Guest - There is no more fearsome beast in Africa than the Cape Buffalo. They are rarely attacked by anything but man - with a VERY LARGE caliber rifle - and almost never by any of the big cats unless the Cape is ill or injured. The big cats don't attack a full grown hippo either. In fact, the hippo annually kills more humans in Africa than any other animal in the wild.
