    Going door to door???????

I remember the JW's thinking this was a great chance to reach those we normally wouldn't have. I hated going out in service on the holidays!!!!! I remember doing this on Christmas too. I thought it was rude to go to people's doors when they were trying to visit with family from out of town, or just visiting with family in general.

I remember the looks on people's faces when they would open the door and were expecting a family member and found JW's standing there. The look of disappointment was clear and being the holiday they didn't want to be rude. I hated it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Anyone else remember this??????????? How did you feel?? What did you notice about the people who answered the door?????

    Jesika:

I went along with it like everyone else, but it did suck! I always felt like we were intruding. It wasn't very courteous to disturb ppl at a time when they were probably very busy putting the finishing touches on a very important meal. I just rationalized that it was a good time to witness cause a lot of ppl finally were at home. I never truely felt that was a good time for witnessing.

Ya it did suck. I tried to be partnered up with someone who wouldn't tell on me if I didn't knock or ring the bell.

Pleasure-----how in the hell did you get away with not going at all????? There was no way I could get around it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I always thought going out on holidays was extremely rude.

What about all those hung over on New Years getting drug out of bed to come answer the door and it was us!

And the JW's wonder why "worldy" people don't like them.

Here in dull old England we do not have Thanksgiving day.

We used to go out on Christmas day though . In times of my youth that was our tradition as much as "The World" had theirs . People were generally O K in my experience.

In more recent times I found a tailing off of support for that that arrangement . the last time I did it I was the only one who turned up! So I gave them a rollicking at the next group study!

Perhaps they could just see common sense!

I really lucked out in that area - my father believed it was rude to disturb families on the holidays so we rarely had to "support the group" in holiday service. Amazing really, because he was an elder.

yeah, we went door to door on Thanksgiving - and most people were quite pleasant to us. I didn't like going then, but Lord!!!!! The smell of turkey cooking was over-powering!

That smell alone sent thousands of jw's to Cracker Barrel, etc., on Thanksgiving. Was just too much persecution to endure.....we caved in & committed the sin of gluttony. (with wanton pleasure too)

ps: I never went out on xmas day. But I shooooore did hit them sales xmas eve when everybody else was home cooking & drinking! I just didn't tell anyone.
