There is a Donny Hathaway song (I think) called "This Christmas". The Whispers also did a wonderful Christmas album several years back when I was in the borg, I wish I had it now. My favorite traditional carols are "Silent Night" "Little Drummer Boy" and "Winter Wonderland".

I agree the "Little Drummer Boy" is good and I'm kind of partial to "Hark, the Herald Angel Sings."

    Yeru:

My favorite is "O Holy Night" "...Long lay the world in sin and error pining, 'till he appeared and the soul felt it's worth, a thrill of hope the weary world rejoices for yonder lay the new and glorious morn..."

That was one of my favorites too.... until Mariah Carey (gawd, I can't stand her!) did a rendition of it and totally ruined that carol for me.

I also like The Twelve Days of Christmas, Do You Hear What I Hear?, and Silver Bells.

There are .pdf files of Christmas carol lyrics at http://www.christthekinganglican.org/xmas/ if anyone is interested.

Ignore the bad versions, stick with the good. Chestnuts Roasting On An Open Fire (Merry Christmas) is a decent secular song, which is what Rockin Around The Christmas Tree is too. So, technically those aren't "Carols". There is an Hispanic CD that has a Latinized Version of the "Sugar Plum Fairy" theme from "The Nut Cracker" that really kicks butt. The CD is called "A Latin Christmas" If ya get a chance to hear it, go for it.

I also liked the Pogues "Fairytale in NY", the Pretenders "2000 miles", Silent Night (several versions, but a punked out one by I think Bad Religion is different), Bowie and Bing Crosbie's "Little Drummer boy", Maria Carrie's "All I want for Christmas" (particularly the video..lol), Wham's "Last Christmas" as well as Lennon's "So this is Christmas".

At least it is nice to be able to listen to these songs without feeling like u are doing something wrong.

I'm sure it's MUCH better with the MUTE button activated....

I am very fond of Celtic Christmas music. Something about it just is so comforting and homey for the holidays......and, yes, I also like Manheim Steamrollers.

    But......

One that gives me a chuckle is "Santa Baby" sung by Smashmouth!

I'm not a crying kind of guy, but "drummer boy" does it to me every time. I don't even like to hear it, it's embarrassing!
