T' all tha Floridians out there: 2 Live Crew, F**k Shop (or anything by 2LC for that matter...)

I believe even the cleaned up edited version of their album was banned from a few of our parties. East coast bass rocked with those 40-60 cycle sustained tones hitting hard.

Whew, memories of my bad years as a young jdub living the double life.

OK, I don't suppose anyone will believe this, but at one time, the song "Que Sera Sera" by Doris Day was banned. This was because it implied belief in fate and predestination (ie. "What will be will be")

Cream by Prince. A few of my friends were singing along to it when someone decided to point out what the song was about. They didn't play it after that.

I remember that too. Starting to show my age a bit.

Last witness wedding I went to, they played the twist and everyone was doin the twist including the sloppy overweight elder and his wife. I remember wondering then if the viewpoint on that dance craze had since changed and if I missed it in the publications

How bout dancin with anyone who wasn't your mate? I didn't learn how to dance as a teenager because dancing was sooo illicit. Later when the cong. I was in loosened up a bit, I couldn't enjoy cause I hadn't ever danced before. The early weddings I went to never had dancing at the receptions. Only in the last twenty years or so, do I see witnesses enjoying dancing.

The Elders/Mother made me throw away John Lennon's Two Virgins album (Showed John and Yoko both nude on the cover). Wow, that album is worth some $$$.

Sir Paul's Hi Hi Hi song was a big no no too............

Also, I remember the PO of our hall going through my record albums to make sure they were ok.

I wasn't allowed to listen to Blondie's "Call Me" (from American Gigalo) or Paul Anka's "Havin' My Baby" or Smokey Robinson's "Cruisin'", or "Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds".......even "Hotel California" was highly questionable.......and lets not forget the guy who started all the badness and single-handedly corrupted an entire generation of innocent young girls when he dared to swivel his hips on telly....

Wow. I remember that one too. I was the first of my peer group to buy that album. I was also chastised, counseled, ridiculed and brow beaten for owning that album. Remember the picture on the inside cover? The person on the balcony? It was supposed to be the leader of some Satanic worshipping group that Glenn Frey and Don Henley hung around with. I still have it and bought the CD later too. Great album, devil worshipping and all.

Do these urban legends exist for the newer stars and their music? I never heard anyone complain about Brittney Spears or Christina Aq(however you spell it). No one seems to complain about the new angst filled "alternative" rock. I have heard rap and heavy metal mentioned but nothing much outside of that. Are the dub parents and elders falling down on the job?
