    This guy is me.

I'll admit that not everything about me and him is the same, but I totally identify with him. Totally. Although this is a painting from maybe the forties, it applies today. It's a classic.

    I mean... look at him.

This man is me. And, in some ways, maybe you too.

Hi Teejay: Many here, maybe a majority, can relate to the man standing up ... I do ... some, maybe many as well, may relate more to those sitting down ... they just don't realize it.

I could relate if it were a pic of everyone standing and one person sitting

The dude is obviously the "average Joe". He's standing up for himself. He's not a rich bastard, just a hard working man. I like him a lot.

There is a quiet dignity about this man that is impossible to ignore. Although he's of humble means, he has thought about something relative to his world, has taken the time after a hard day's work to come to the town meeting, and has found the strength to stand up in a room of people who are "better" than him -- to share with his neighbors what is on his mind.

It's also hard not to be moved by those who are sitting. They give the man all the respect that he is due. They want to hear what this man, their equal for the moment, has to say. He will no doubt say something that is a fresh viewpoint -- something they had yet to think about or consider -- and, leaning in close to hear every word, they do not want to miss what he has to say.

In a very real sense, in one way or another, this painting represents everyone here on this forum. Whether we are the one standing or one of the ones sitting, we are all in this painting.

It has always been one of my favorite works of art. Freedom Of Speech by Norman Rockwell (1943).

you see this guy? this guy is me. we may not have the same traits or nationality, but this guy stood up and said the truth that people didnt want to hear, and died for it, died because he loved people and love cost him his life. when someone can do this in the face of adversity for the good of others, then thats who i want to be.
