Don't get caught off-guard by the JWs presentations. These are the presentations that the JWs will give at your door for December and part of January:

    12/15/02 Watchtower:

"At this time of the year, many think about Jesus' birth. Did you know that there are valuable lessons we can learn from the Bible's account of his birth? [Allow for response. Then point to page 5, and read 1 Timothy 3:16.] This issue of The Watchtower considers some of these lessons."

    -------------------------------------

    12/22/02 Awake!:

"Do you feel that parents have reason to be concerned about how today's violent entertainment is affecting their children? [Allow for response.] Many parents use this Bible verse as a guideline. [Read Psalm 11:5.] This issue of Awake! helps families to examine the risks associated with electronic games."

    -------------------------------------

    1/1/03 Watchtower:

"When people lose a loved one in death or suffer from an illness, they often wonder, 'Why does God allow this?' Perhaps you have asked the same question. The Bible shows that God feels for those who suffer. [Read Isaiah 63:9a.] This magazine explains why we can be sure that God will end suffering."

    -------------------------------------

    1/8/03 Awake!:

"Do you think that government should interfere with freedom of speech? [Allow for response.] What if the speech involves talking to others about religion, as we read here? [Read Acts 28: 30. 31.] Recently, this question was brought before the U.S. Supreme Court. You are invited to read about it in this issue of Awake! "

    -------------------------------------

How would you respond to these? Any opinions about one or all of them? I would love to debate a JW about freedom of speech.

I did not know there were valuable lessons....I guess I would say that for a virgin to give birth back then...hmmm, I think she would have been stoned ( not high on marijuana, but rather killed for being a slut). (I am guessing that ancient Isreal and Rome were as conservative as the Middle East is today)

So, I would say, don't be a virgin and give birth. They probably did not have epidurals back then so I am thinking that it really hurt--being a virgin and all.

The government has no business interfering with freedom of speech, and neither does your freakin' religion!! <SLAM>

You mean as opposed to the risk to your family of getting involved with a religious cult?

    Response:

You: I think freedom of religion is in reality freedom of conscience, which is very important. How would you feel if you were hated and persecuted for your beliefs or following your conscience.

[allow response] (Which is irrelevant anyway... ask any JW)
The JW will likely perk up and start talking about how JWs are persecuted

You: I'm sure there are a lot of people who have been persecuted for following their conscience... for instance... did you know that because I chose to leave the organization of Jehovah's Witnesses my family and friends have all started to shun me? Try to imagine... being hated and rejected by your own family simply because you are not in their religion.

JW: Errr Ummm Uhhhh... are you an apostate?

You: Me? Apostate? Oh no! Not at all... in fact I will make it a point of only referring to your own literature. I have read your literature before and have gotten a pretty good idea how you view freedom of speech... as far as I can tell you severely discourage it... Not only that, you seem to severely discourage people from even having the freedom to think what they wish. Here, let me read you some quotes from the Watchtower ...

The Watchtower January 15th 1983 Issue, Page 22:
    "Avoid Independent Thinking"
"Avoid.... questioning the counsel that is provided by God's visible organization."
"How is such independent thinking manifested? A common way is by questioning the counsel that is provided by God's visible organization."
    ------------------------------------
The Watchtower January 15th 1983 Issue, Page 27:
"....some who point out that the organization has had to make some adjustments before, and so they argue: "This shows that we have to make up our own mind on what to believe." This is independent thinking. Why is it so dangerous?"
    "Fight against independent thinking."
    ------------------------------------
The Watchtower September 15th 1989 Issue, Page 23:
"In the world, there is a tendency to reject leadership. As one lecturer said: ;'The rising education level has improved the talent pool such that followers have become so critical that they are almost impossible to lead.' But a spirit of independent thinking does not prevail in God's organization, and we have sound reasons for confidence in the men taking the lead among us."
    ------------------------------------
The Watchtower March 15th 1986 Issue, Page 17:
"Beware of those who try to put forward their own contrary opinions."
    ------------------------------------
The Watchtower July 1st 1994 Issue, Pages 12-13:
"As loyal servants of Jehovah, why would we even want to peek at the propaganda put out by rejecters of Jehovah's table...."
    ------------------------------------
The Watchtower August 1st 1960 Issue, Page 474:
"Jehovah's witnesses, though international, are 'one heart and soul,' of the 'same mind' and the 'same line of though.'"
    ------------------------------------
The Watchtower June 1st 1967 Issue, Page 338:
"....in Jehovah's organization it is not necessary to spend a lot of time and energy in research, for there are brothers in the organization who are assigned to that very thing...."
    ------------------------------------
The Watchtower August 1st 1972 Issue, Page 458:
"....the Watchtower study conductor, who presides over this meeting, has an important responsibility. This study enables all to be united in the same line of thought."
    ------------------------------------
The Watchtower August 1st 1980 Issue, Page 19:
"Thus, the one who doubts to the point of becoming an apostate sets himself up as a judge. He thinks he knows better than his fellow Christians, better also than the 'faithful and discreet slave,' through whom he has learned the best part, if not all that he knows about Jehovah God and his
