to go upstairs:
Ok, the weirdest thing in the world, at least in MY world, just
happened!!! I'm downstairs in my room, when I hear all these thumps
and bangs coming from upstairs. Now, the kids are at school, the
dogs are outside...only me and the cat are loose in the house,
right? So I can't figure out what it is the cat is doing...until,
all of a sudden, it hits me. What if the gerbil (Stan) has somehow
gotten out of his cage and the cat (Arwen) is after him??!!
In panic now, I shoot up the stairs and there is what I most feared!
The gerbil and the cat, locked in mortal combat on the landing!! My
heart is racing, my legs are jelly, and I'm screaming at the cat: NO
KITTY!! (effective huh? but hey, I was scared!) I just know that
Stan is probably already mortally wounded because the bumps and bangs
had been going on for a couple of minutes before I went up to
investigate. I wade into the fray to rescue Stan...but wait! STAN
is attacking the cat! Not the other way around...the cat is doing her
damnedest to get away from him, but every time she takes a step, he
darts at her and JUMPS ON HER!!! She's freaking out, I'm freaking
out, and the bloody gerbil won't stop!!! I have never in my life
seen anything like this. We've always been afraid of what might
happen if the gerbil got loose and the cat found him. I had no idea
he'd be the aggressor!
Anyway, I grabbed the cat and put in her in a bedroom and then tried
to catch the gerbil...but then he started jumping on me! I am
embarrassed to admit it, but I was jumping around, yelling and waving
my arms, and trying not to step on him...and I was too scared to just
grab the little bugger! He finally ran AWAY from me (Thank DOG!)
and, to make a long story short, I managed to get him back in the
cage, without actually touching him, mind you. Jesus H. Christ! My
heart is STILL pounding, and my hands are still shaking...somebody
give me a valium...I need it after my Great Gerbil Encounter.
BTW...the cat is now locked in HER bedroom, the gerbil is locked in
the bathroom, with his cage secure, and towels stuffed under the door
(just in case) and they're bloody well staying that way until the
kids come home!!!!!
