    G'day all,

Yes, It's here! Time for #30! But "first things first", so we gotta ask, h ow's your weekend going?

Here in Oz, it's late Sunday evening, yet you guys in Europe (and that includes youse poms!) are now around midday. Had your bacon and eggs, I guess, and now settling down to a good cultural read of the News of the World . What about youse lot in North America? I guess you'll have to read this post a bit later, eh?

Mrs Ozzie and I had a great Sunday. We went up to the big smoke (Sydney) and saw a performance of "Messiah" at the Sydney Town Hall. It's an annual event that's been held each year around this time over many years. The choral singing is by the combined churches choir. Music by the SBS Orchestra and a great organist. You should see the organ at Sydney Town Hall. Magic! The 4 soloists were all up-and-coming young stars of Opera Australia. What a treat! Packed house. It always is. Sadly the young tenor is leaving Oz for London next year. Seems strange to see him there a young man not yet 30. Mrs Ozzie and I have known him since he was a small boy and now to see him in a starring role. Most "heart-warming" as the Watchtower would say! Our loss in Oz is your gain, you poms!

Anyway, now we're in a festive mood, how about our poll for the weekend? This week's question asks us to think back to when we were dubs. Of course, if you are still a dub, well, watch out for the elders who are here!

    This week's question is:

What did you do with the Christmas cards you received?

    1. Hung them in the front window.

    2. Threw them straight in the bin.

    3. Put them in the bin.....after looking at them.

    4. Cut out the best pictures and framed them.

    5. Asked the elders if I could keep them.

    6. Put them in the mail "Return to Sender".

    7. Hid them in a cupboard to look at later.

    8. Thought how pitiful it was that people would believe such superstitious nonsense.

    9. Sent the sender a "New World" tract.

    10. Had a competition with the rest of the book study group who got the most cards.

    11. Other (please detail)

    Enjoy. Happy 30th poll.

    Cheers, Ozzie

Good Morrow good sir, 'tis rather early A.M. here on Canada's West Coast. I'm about to head off to Neverland, but had to do some touchups on our Christmas display. The Mrs. and I are into miniatures and we've started what we hope will become a tradition here. We set up a Yuletide Village complete with working train and woodland creatures and snow, right in our living room. Each year we'll add another piece or pieces. I was just doing some fine tuning on this years edition and thought I'd check out your Poll question for the week. The answer is #11. As part of our overall Festive decor, we hang all the Christmas cards we receive on a red and green ribbon strung across our dining room wall. This way we can always see them and anyone visiting is welcome to browse and enjoy the greetings from others. As our families are all non-witnesses(and there are a lot of relatives) we get quite a number of cards.Needless to say there is also a huge variety and together they make quite a display.

P.S. These polls you do Oz are great fun. Keep it up!

Off to the Nederlands, eh Alfie? You lucky things! Oh, I see... "never land".

For the poll, you might like to cast your mind back to when you were a dub. What did you do with Xmas cards then?

Glad you enjoy the weekend polls.

    Cheers, Ozzie

    Ozzie,

I always keep my cards. Around beginning January time, I would send them a blank verse card to thank them for their thought and in it I'd explain why I didn't send them a Christmas card. I am on the brink of leaving the organisation, but I still won't bother with Christmas much because I just can't be bothered with all the hype. I like bits of it so I'll just enjoy the bits I like and discard the rest.

I always send the cards to a local charity - they re-use them for next year - waste not, want not etc.

OOPS!! Sorry about that. I guess I didn't read the fine print. I'll try again.

#'s 3&8. As I work in a job where there are a lot of regular clients and I get to know many of them personally, each Christmas I would get several(20 or more at least) cards along with assorted gifts. Trying to sound as grateful as I could, I accepted them. My wife would always look at them when I got home, but of course we would then discard the cards,(never the gifts though) and I'd vow to explain the next year why I couldn't accept these expressions of kindness and appreciation. That never seemed to happen though, and the gifts and cards kept right on coming.God, what a hypocrite!

Anyway, that's all behind us now,n'est ce pas? LET THE GOOD TIMES ROLL!!!!!

#4 Frame them (as long as they are Biblical) My favorites are snowflakes, snowmen, sleighs.

The angels praised and celebrated Jesus birth on earth.

    Luke 2:8-14

    8

There were also in that same country shepherds living out of doors and keeping watches in the night over their flocks. 9 And suddenly Jehovahs angel stood by them, and Jehovahs glory gleamed around them, and they became very fearful. 10 But the angel said to them: "Have no fear, for, look! I am declaring to YOU good news of a great joy that all the people will have, 11 because there was born to YOU today a Savior, who is Christ [the] Lord, in Davids city. 12 And this is a sign for YOU : YOU will find an infant bound in cloth bands and lying in a manger." 13 And suddenly there came to be with the angel a multitude of the heavenly army, praising God and saying: 14 "Glory in the heights above to God, and upon earth peace among men of goodwill."

Used to be #3, but now I hang them in my office, since they aren't welcome at home (my wife would throw a fit).

The only ones we got when we were dubbies were from businesses we frequented. We had managed, rather successfully, to sufficiently alienate all of our "worldly" relatives and acquaintances so that they didn't send cards because they were afraid that we'd be offended if they did. We'd get the generic card from the car dealership, dentist, cell phone company etc - along with a fridge magnet or a calendar - we'd toss the card and keep the "gift".

    Love, Scully
