Did I mention that I am in a similar situation? My honey and I talk about everything, so there are no surprises. There are days, though, that I wish I could kiss the society goodbye.

The elders will just remind him of the scripture of marrying only 'in the lord', meaning a 'believer', meaning another witness.
He should stick to the fact that he's hopelessly in love with you and to tell them about your wonderful qualities, and that this is no a platonic relationship but rather his intentions being honorable and that he means to marry you in the near future.
He'll have a few silly privileges taken away temporarily, but not to worry, they'll come back in time.
