Dede hon- your 3 day birthday isn't over yet!!!!
XW of the "happy feet" class
Well the night started off pretty good, we went to our favorite place and WT beat my hind end at pool very bad, I only won one game, last week I bet his ass......oh well.
We danced and had a good time, but I have to admit I did get a little barfy which is unual for me, since I didnt feel drunk ..........hheehe. But I had a McD's burger before and think that did it.
We also didnt get to stay as late as we wanted, my youngest son had a mommie attack and wouldnt stay with his grandmother. We were almost home when we had to double back 40 miles to pick him up. I was a bit irritated but figured this might happen.
Chance is 8 yrs old but has some behavoiral problems , they say due to his premature birth by more than 2 months, lack of oxygen on serveral occassion because of asthma and phenmonia, being on a ventilator. He was in the NICU for 2 months and endured alot of pain , needles, surgies, etc.
Plus he didnt get to bond with me the way a normal baby does, I couldnt hold him for a long time because he was so fragile and had so many wires hooked up to him, he couldnt even take a bottle , for fear he would aspirate the milk and his sucking was too weak.
The reason I tell ya'll this is so ya'll too will understand why I had to go pick him up even thou I wanted to be alone with WT all night, is because he has Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, ADDH, and Obsessive complusive disorder. He is a hard little boy to deal with most of the time. I don't have him on meds , because I don't want him taking strong speed right now, but if he continues to get worse I may have to look into something.
He has a reoccuring dream that I get run over by the garbage truck , out by the road. He is terrified that I will die, all the time he says this. The doctors say it just all goes back to the trauma he had as an infant.
Have any of you had a child with these problems, did you put them on meds.

I know how this frustrates you and scares you for Chance at the same time.
I found a link about treatment for you:
http://www.adhd.com/treat/treatADHD.htm
the website that came from seems to be a pretty good one regarding ADHD.
Although I've never dealt with it myself, you know I am always here with an ear !!!
Lots of love my friend!!

Dede,
I am jealous that you have a husband who dances, LOL. Mine won't even dance in private pffft.
Anyway, to answer your question about meds and ADD. You are aware I have been going through some severe emotional difficulties in the past couple of months. Recently we were able to rule out Bi-polar which I am grateful for. I was however diagnosed with ADD and put on a med called dexadrine spansules. While it did not solve all my problems, I have been very pleasantly amazed at the reaction I have had to this medication. I tried Ritalin a while back which sent me through the roof, but this seems to act differently at least for me. I know you are asking about kids, but since my kids were never diagnosed, (tho I strongly suspect that at least one of my kids has this problem) I thought I would give you my first hand experience. After being on the meds for about 3 weeks, I am already concentrating better and getting more done. I feel more relaxed and focused. I wonder how life may have been different for my kids if we had dealt with things differently as they were growing up, both for them and for myself.
My therapist is himself a specialist in ADHD as well as dealing with it first hand. He tells me it is a neuralogical disorder rather than a mental illness. He compares it to a six cylander engine firing on only four cylanders. No matter how hard I may want to get to a certain goal, my engine just keeps missing and missing and I never quite make it and wear myself out trying. Many kids try to self medicate, which is why so many of these kids try drugs when they become teens. The fact is I used to use speed as a teen and it was my favorite drug because it did make me feel very clear and focused rather than speedy.
Dede, I hope this helps. I haven't been posting much lately, but I really wanted to tell you not to be afraid to think about giving medication a try with Chance. It may make the life he has ahead of him less of a struggle.
