    Met with mayor

During his campaign for mayor, Jack Ellis promised that his office would always be open for the citizens of Macon. So, on Dec. 17, a spiritual brother and I, both Jehovah's Witnesses, called on the mayor to present an important article in our magazine that contained a recent landmark decision by the U.S. Supreme Court that gives us and others a legal right to visit the homes of the people to express our views.

Despite his busy schedule, the mayor saw us personally and treated us very kindly and with deep respect.

    We appreciated the mayor's actions.

    David Slocumb
    Macon

(copied from the Thursday Dec. 19 Macon Telegraph Letters to the Editor page)

Jack[ass] Ellis is Macon's first black mayor and even the black folks can't stand him. This is definitely not a racial issue, I was just making a point about how unpopular Ellis is.

Is it just me or does the above letter to the Macon Telegraph come across as a lack of the JW's alleged political neutrality?

Really don't understand what their reasoning was to visit with the mayor, and then write a letter on it. Either way, they were associating with a wordly political leader, and that is bad association.

More curious still...wonder if said Mayor understands that his JW visitors won't vote for him?

It seems to me that the only way this letter would make any sense is if Jws were experiencing problems going from door to door in Macon and they wanted the mayor to be aware that the Supreme Court has given them the o.k. to do so.

I'm seriously thinking of writing a letter to the paper myself in response. I'd like to point out the neutrality stance and question the need for Slocumb to write his letter, or even meet with Jackass Ellis for that matter. It would be a good opportunity to bring the "secret" U.N. membership to the attention of the public as most are well aware of the JW neutrality policy.

Right now I'm drawing a blank as to what words to write but I'm definitely going to write a response to Slocumb's letter and submit it to the Telegraph. Matter of fact, if anyone else wants to respond personally to Slocumb's letter you can submit letters to the editor of the Telegraph online. The URL is www.macontelegraph.com, just click on the "Letters" link on the left of the page. Hopefully some responses will be printed.

Freedom: They were probably discussing the Stratton, OH ordinance. I'm going to ask around and try and find out the details of the visit. For them to pay a visit to the mayor like that and then to write about it in the paper like that...there's gotta be more to the story. If I had to guess, I'd put my money on one of the city's big-shots getting his/her door knocked on at a bad time.

Don't forget to include in your letter the fact that JWs will send known and suspected pedophiles to the constituents of his fair city, and that the reason why these known and suspected pedophiles are not turned in to the authorities is because the leaders of the JWs requires there be two eyewitnesses to any allegations of child sexual abuse. Ask the mayor how he intends to protect the children of his city from these monsters.

What's weird is that they talk about their "magazine." They were meeting for an interview ? Why are they interviewing a mayor ? It would seem they are indeed referring to Stratton:

that contained a recent landmark decision by the U.S. Supreme Court that gives us and others a legal right to visit the homes of the people to express our views. ----------Witness letter

what irritates the hell out of me about Stratton, is that Stratton NEVER said that Witnesses, or anybody else for that matter, couldn't "visit the homes of the people to express" their views. Stratton only wanted anyone that was going to call on the residents to sign in with the town prior to knocking on doors. This was because a substantial number of residents are elderly and had been getting ripped off by door to door scam artists ! I'm not saying if this was right or wrong, but the WTS now attempts to make it appear they were fighting to knock on doors and champions for everyone's rights ! This wasn't the case ! They just did not want to sign in first ! Even the cable companies have to sign in at gated communities ! And if the cable companies took this to court, it wouldn't be because they were concerned with everybody's rights.
