...my husband just got laid off, again. The big job the company had been promised fell through.

This is the second time in three months, but this time they said that the company will most likely
fold within weeks. Its a small firm and the work slowdowns here have really hurt.

We squeaked through the last one it was only a few weeks...don't know what we're going to do now.

Just needed to tell someone. If anyone has good stories of how they got through lean times,
I'd sure appreciate hearing them right now.

    Thanks

    Hi Essie,

15 Years ago I was made redundant from a job. I was out of work for six months. It was hard but I'm no longer afraid of being out of work - I KNOW I can survive. It may be different in this country (it's against the law to starve in England), we had State help and I did odd jobs to make ends meet. I used the time to learn new skills which made me more attractive in the job market.

It was a hard time but I used to think to myself lots of people in the world were worse off.

I hope all goes well for you. Remain positive and I'm sure it will.

    My thoughts are with you,
    Dean.

    HI,
My name is Mark and I've been laid off for 5 weeks now.
I've been working in the computer chip bis. for about 4
years now and well if you have stock in Motorolla or
Intel I don't need to tell you what happened. I really
just try to take things one day at a time. Like the council
be happy with what you have today. God knows what
you need so just lean on him. I also have a great family
even though the organization has tried to rip it a part. For
the most part they don't obey the council when it comes
to immediate family, Praise the Lord for that. In your trying
times I'll be praying for you and your family please do the
same for me. There is great power in a multitude of prayers.
Smile and Breath deep for all is well today and really what
    else do we have.

    Hello Esmeralda,
I have never been laid off but that might change in the next six weeks my company (NEC Electronics) just announced a 44% reduction in workforce. The only thing that I tell myself to make myself feel better is that the unemployment rate in america is still only around 4.5% so there are jobs out there. My only advice would be not to rush into a low paying job just to have a job, use your (his) unemployment benefits and take a little time and something new will come up.

    Oh Es,

Confound it all!! Sending supportive thoughts your way, and Jack's too. :)

Don't have any lean time stories, although one Friday my husband was told to clean out his desk that they had eliminated his job position. No warning, although it wasn't totally unexpected, the rumor mill was churning, but that isn't always reliable.

Two weeks later, he was working again, in a infinitely better atmosphere, in a field that he enjoyed much, much more. I'm rooting for an ending like that for you too.

    Hugs to ya,
    Michelle

I work in the same industry as you mark and it is a bad time, and probably will continue to be bad for a couple of quarters yet. Overproduction, its that whole supply and demand thing. I am training to work in a different industry because if you worked in the wafer fab business for long you know that the whole industry runs on a 3 to 5 year cycle, you either losing money hand over fist or making money hand over fist, no middle ground.
So your company is always trying to madly hire people (without regard to quality) or slashing jobs like Hannible Lector.

    Hi, Es.

Is there any way that you can start your own business? I took a job working nights so that I could put together my own business. I worked almost around the clock for 10 months until my business took off, but it was worth it.

I never had problems getting a job, it was always holding on to a job that was my problem, companies, folding, relocating, merging, filing bankruptcy, etc.

When Reagan too office, we had that little recession, I was out of work for some 18 months, sent out over 1000 resumes, received two intervieww, with the same company and still didn't get the job, they did call me AFTER I was settled.

All I can say, is if you have faith in God, as I do, then things work out. Jesus stated that we shouldn't woryy about the things of life, because the Father knows we need these things, that's not to mean you're going to receive a paycheck from God in the mail, it simply means things work out. David said in proverbs, he never saw one of the Lord's children without bread.

I know in my case, we were living on one income, the bills came in, the bills always outweighed the income, yet every month the bills got paid and ON time. It defied all mathematics .... hey who am I to question. Prov. 3:5,6
