Not to be rude, but why is it you all knock on people's doors? Don't find that annoying? Would you like it if Satanists or Muslims knocked on your door trying to convert you? Whether you know it or not, nearly everyone loathes your religion because of that. Annoying pamphlets left behind in grocery stores or in workplaces are annoying too. Om a side note, if you believe only 144,000 people are going to heaven, why are you advertising and inviting more?
What is it with knocking on doors?

Hi Pierre and welcome to this site.
The majority of the members here are ex-Jehovah's Witnesses and they feel the same way you do when it comes to door to door evangelizing. I never was a JW and understand exactly how you feel. Maybe one of the ex-JW's here can explain why the Jehovahs Witlesses knock on doors.

I admit I did it - because I was told to - otherwise I would die at Armageddon and so would all the poor people I didn't bother to call on - and it would be ALL MY FAULT!
Well - that's why I did it anyway - anyone else?

Most had a clue, but it was taught and drilled into the heads. Brainwashing.
Me? I didn't like going door to door knocking. I didn't want to go knock on a door and get yelled at. In fact, I was scared out my mind because I was extremely shy. But if I didn't knock on enough doors or work enough hours... that card would be blank...turning in a half blank time slip. That's like handing your parents your report card with a "D" on it. D for Disfellowshipped. Not me, but most felt that way.
Funny thing, a Mormon came knocking on our door and it ends up a debate between my JW mother and him. I really saw it from the other end now that somebody else was knocking on our door this time.

Uh, Pierre, may I suggest you look around before making the above remarks? This site is composed of exJWs who no longer knock on doors or adhere to Watchtower policies. We are escapees and surivors of the Watchtower.
Stick around, though, you may get a real education on a real slick operation of a printing company disguised as God's sole channel of comunication."

I do admire devoution, don't get me wrong, but it has it's limits. I'm a Christian, so I don't need witnessing, it's just it was annoying to have the knocking etc done. Not celebrating any holiday or birthday also seems kind of odd. Granted, some are obviously pagan, but having a little fun on a birthday isn't immoral, is it? Just seems silly to me.

Hiya Pierre!
I am an ex-jw as are most of the people here. They believe that 144,000 are going to heaven but that an innumerable "great crowd" will live on earth in paradise after the "Great Tribulation". They are brainwashed into believing that it is their god-given duty to spread the "good news" so that everyone has the privilege to believe as they do and be saved.
Yes it's annoying and to be honest you should feel sorry for them, especially if they are children.

Well the hell with it. I'm convinced. I'll never knock on another door.

Actually, I did not know this site was for ex witnesses. It seemed like most of you all weren't happy with it I agree, but the domain name doesn't inspire me to think "former".
