I remember asking my parents about this when I was a kid and being told that the Society doesn't do that sort of thing because it wasn't wealthy and the risk of being taken advantage of was too high (in my parents' defense, I think they actually believed this).

It's amazing how Satan uses worldly charities to make God's Only True Religion look stingy, unfeeling and inhumane.
That damn Satan is pretty crafty! πΉππ£πΉπΎππ₯ππ·π³π₯π

My sister a devotee of this religion received some excellent assistance when she and her husband were dead broke.
In telling me about the Anglicare program that supplied so much food and vouchers, she was sort of..........laughing about it. Not in a nice way either. It was more of a "fooled the wicked system" sort of glee she felt. I was disgusted with her and told her to stop mocking people who are genuinely good. Quick change of subject followed.........I asked her if anyone at their hall had helped out...............No response.
This is quite a common type of attitude I have noticed throughout the years.

Years ago I found myself with an extra sum of money during District Convention season for our area. Knowing we had a few in our congregation that were struggling, I approached an elder and asked if there was a fund in place that was used for helping local brothers get to the convention city or pay for lodging, etc... I got such a look of suspicion and it almost seemed like his face went into slow motion.... "Whyyyyy...?", he asked.
I quickly put it together that he thought _ I _ was asking for money and he was extremely uncomfortable with it. That made ME extremely uncomfortable so I quickly added, "I just wanted to pitch in to help the LOCAL brothers but I don't know what the arrangement is."
I gleaned from that experience that charitable giving is not a comfortable arrangement or topic inside "God's Christian congregation."
