No one can say for certain who wrote the Gospels but cetainly out of the four the so called Gospel of John does something out of character for its time. It, more than all the other Gospels, gives credit and honor to women.

The "Gospel of John" shows women speaking openly with Jesus, women openly asking Jesus questions, women even attempting to contradict him, women being told wonderous things such what Jesus told the Samaritan woman at the well about worshipping God with Spirit and that he, Jesus, was the Messiah. Also, the conversation with Martha concerning the resurrection of the faithful and the never ending life of the living, and of course the greatest news in the all the world and the greatest teaching in the all the world: the resurrection of the Christ, was first told to a woman who then was instructed to tell the male disciples.

Over and over "John's" Gospel raises up women to a position that even the Apostle Paul did not recognize in his letters. Paul stood by the customs of his day concerning women, the fourth Gospel ignores those customs when Jesus is on the scene.

If this Gospel was written by a man, it must have a man almost as great as his Master.

    In my opinion, anyway.

It is an interesting comment found on the Magdelene web site that the charactor of Mary reappears in other religions. This is so. In fact the Gnostics immediately associated the Mary Mag of the bible with their own Sophia. Sophia was healed of a 12 year flow of blood by Horus the Egyptian Savior.(500 bc) Also it was recognised by the Church Father Irenaeus that the tale about Mary Mag being freed of 7 demons was mirrored by the contemporary Samaritan story of Simon Magnus casting 7 demons out of the woman Helena, who by the way was a prostitute. A close examination of the Bible and other religious stories in their historical context reveals recycled tales and well worn imagery.

First, where do you get this business about Jesus sharing a secret with mary Magdalene?

Some suppose that Mary was a Hair dresser. The Aramiac for Hair dresser is supposed to be close to our pronunciation of Magdalene.

Well you are right about the one who jesus exspelled 7 demons ,I forgot that part but in Luke she is referred to as Marry the so called Magdalene. If Magdalene was just a last name then whey the so called part of the statement .Luke came after the events had occured and did have more overview as to the events .He had interviewed the participants of the events and came up with a slighty different Gospel. That part is what makes this a very enigmatic topic. Why the other gospels refer to her simply as Mary Magdalene but Luke uses the statement "the so called Magdalene".?

    Yes elderrepents,

Eggplant was used.....why? Should we have used something else?

I really love this recipe for "Moussaka" I am eating leftovers today!!

Hey give us any advice Oh Sage Of Greek Culinary Delights!!Para ti....

Islandwoman pointed out that. Over and over "John's" Gospel rises up women to a position that even the Apostle Paul did not recognize in his letters

Composer Bachs wife and daughter wrote music that was released in HIS name because of the bigotry against women at the time. So it is not improbable that a woman using his pen name wrote some of Johns gospels.

Also, in the U.S.A. many couples who wanted the best for their daughters would name their baby girls boys namesChris, Morgan, Leslie, Robin, etc. Their hope was that in giving their daughters mens names that they would become successful in life. Back then there was no net meeting or even a bus to get you across the country. So when a young woman say in Maine, sent her resume across the country even just as far as Illinoisthe boss might not notice she was a woman and just her qualifications would shine. Such as school attended, and extracurricular activities.

So the likelihood that imperfect men would think using Johns name in the place of Marys is high!

Still and all God can defend His own ways. If He decided a woman would be best as a writer to one of His Son gospels then who could argue or stand? AlanF pointed out on another thread this scripture

Are you defending God by means of lies and dishonest arguments? You should be impartial witnesses, but will you slant your testimony in his favor? Will you argue Gods case for him? Be careful that he doesnt find out what you are doing! Or do you think you can fool him as easily as you fool people? No, you will be in serious trouble with him if even in your hearts you slant your testimony in his favor. Doesnt his majesty strike terror into your heart? Does not your fear of him seize you? Your statements have about as much value as ashes. Your defense is as fragile as a clay pot. (Job 13:7-12; New Living Translation)

So you see if God wanted a woman to write a gospel He did not have to hide it. He would have said so.who could righteously complain of it?

Also Islandwoman you made the beautiful statement. If this Gospel was written by a man, it must have been a man almost as great as his Master. This is the kind of man our Savior is and the kind of man the leaders of our Religion should be. The Christs Apostles were adjusted on their feelings of woman and accepted this as well the Apostle Paul. You wrote .. Paul stood by the customs of his day concerning women,

Remember Paul made it possible for woman and men to worship side by side at meetings as well as preach! Maybe some women do not like the head coverings but they are a sign of our equality in worship and ministry. The Angels look to see how we react to this. 1 Corinthians 11:10 Also, if a woman wishes she can just get a short hair cut instead of covering her head. This also is a provision from God through Paul.

So even Paul who is accused of being bigoted against women actually was trying to HELP women in a time of great oppression!

Does the GB do this? Are women equal in ministry with men? Do women carry mics in the cong? Or Read The Watchtower lesson? Do they work behind the book counter and keep track of field service hours? Are any like Deborah aloud to officially give advice to The Congregation or Officially help ones out of sin? Does a Brother ever defer a prayer to a Sister? As long as she has head covering or short cut hair? There is much the Angels are watching NOT just how women accept their place BUT how men assign women dignity!

As for did Mary Magdalene write one or more of Johns Gospels? Only Our Creator knows. As a woman, could she be inspired of God? OF COURSE! Look at Deborah who I have mentioned afore.

Still and all Our Savior and King is an example of how our Religious leaders should be and so where His closest disciples.

I think it best for women that all The Gospels were written by men. Then no one can argue dissention of the era or apostasy in the Scriptures as to a womans station in Gods Congregations.

    Thank-you for listening

  • Analysis
    Analysis

One of the Gospels that did not get included in the Bible Cannon spoke of Mary as being the wife of Jesus. One line of reasoning as to what the Holy Grail was the cup that Jesus drank out of at the Last Supper. Another is that it was a cup that Joseph of Arimathea caught some of Jesus blood. But, one very interesting one is that the Holy Grail is the Bloodline of Christ. That Joseph of Arimathea brought Mary and two children of Jesus to England.

There are also some claims that Jesus did not die on the Cross and later moved to France with Mary. Concerning Joseph of Arimathea, some feel that he is the same Joseph that married Jesus mother Mary.

Most of the above was in a Book on King Arthur and the Holy Grail that I red a few months ago. It was also part of a History Channel presentation on the Holy Grail.

King Arthur lore is very intresting Analysis! I spent some time teaching my children all the different myths of him and the possibilities of who he may have been. (I home school) His lore is an example of peoples longing for Paradise conditions and Just Leadership. Ill have to look at The History Channels listings to see when theyll have that program again. It can be a little reminder for us.

Still and all for a believer like me I feel The God who created the universe is so powerful He can touch the sun could make sure that any needed information would make it into the Bible Cannon.

So to me most likely The Bible as it is now is most acceptable. Any other books not included are lacking in accuracy.

I have been interested in The Catholic Bible lately because heard some storys of the maccabees.

Yerusalyim A hair dresser?hmmmm, thats interesting..do you think she did Jesus hair?

You know some things are just a curiosity and not pertinent to peoples salvation. Thank Jah for that! Can you imagine if we had to have the lives of all The Saints memorized?

    Flowers for all.

    Arn't I weird??

    Utopian,

Actually, the theory is that she did Herod Antipas' hair, not Jesus'. Apparently there were several promenient women who supported Jesus financially. Now, a hair dresser wouldn't necessarily be promenient, but the connection could be drawn I suppose. At any rate, WHERE DOES IT SAY JESUS SHARED A SECRET WITH MARY?

  • Utopian_Raindrops
    Utopian_Raindrops

    Cool Yerusalyim !

That would explain why she was called "the so called Magdalene" Because I am sure her duties to Antipas would have required a bit more then hair care. Many Governmental leaders have had such female employees for personal hygiene.

If her name means hairdresser that cracks me up a bit being Latin.

I know a lot of women named Magdalena.

I dont know where it says she shared a secret I am waiting for that answer myself.

    Agape all U_R
