    I realize this won't shake or suprise many, but it's again an example of dishonest writing by the WTBTS. In the Sep 15, 2002 WT, the very first article is "The Modern Appeal of 'Saints" On page 3 as a footnote, the WT Says;

"*Canonization officially recognizes a deceased Roman Catholic as Worthy of universal and obligatory veneration."

Without getting into any of the other possible debates here, NO VENERATION of any saint is OBLIGATORY in the Catholic church. They told an outright lie.

Food for thought from the "faithless and indiscreet slave"

While it may not be obligatory, Mary receives more worship veneration than God in the Roman Catholic Church

    • There are more statues to Mary than to Jesus or anyone else
    • Mary receives more prayer requests for help (rosarie) than God the Father or Jesus

I imagine the WTS would counter that the emphasis should be put on the word "worthy"-that they never said that all Catholics are obliged to venerate saints-lol.

As far as the worship of Mary, I think it's much like the WTS emphasis on the "mother" organisation.

Ah-- not a practicing Catholic but isnt Praying through Mary or a Saint as a not really praying to them at all.

If I understand Catholic teaching praying to a saint or Mary is really askin him to Pray on your behalf? Like if you asked a freind to pray for you over an issue. The freind take a intercessory role.

Mary worship and worshiping of Saints is a bad rap for the Catholics-- worship is much differtent than "veneration".

    Hooberus,

Typical dodge, you'd make a good Dub, you didn't address the obvious dishonesty on the part of the Society in saying veneration of the saints is obligatory.

Veneration and worship are two different things. Mary and the other saints do indeed receive veneration. Adoration is reserved for God alone. I also venerate the memory of my dead brother, and keep his jacket and a sketch he did in an honored place in my home, but I don't worship my brother. I keep my grandmother's broom hanging on a wall. I touch and kiss pictures of my wife and kids when I'm away from them. I venerate them, but I only worship God.

I would challenge the notion that there are more statues of Mary than of Jesus, most statues of Mary I've seen have her with the Christ Child.

The word "prayer" isn't the same as "worship" it simply means "ask". The prayer the "Confietor" expresses this the best, "I ask blessed Mary, ever Virgin, all the angels and saints, and you my brothers and sisters, to pray FOR ME to the Lord Our God."

Any veneration of the saints, any titles given them, all point to the glory of God. For instance, the title "Mother of God" was not given to Mary to honor her so much as to attest to the doctrine of the divinity of Jesus and his dual nature.

The use of prayer through the saints in an intercessory capacity is more or less like the whole "little flock" 144,000 doctrine (according to my understanding of it).

And to say that Mary is "worshipped" more than God is ludicrous. Again, educate yourself to the doctrine before you attack it if you'd like to keep any semblance of an itelligent air about yourself.

    Dang Yerusalyim!!
Your explanation of Veneration as opposed to Worship made me cry.
When I was a little girl being latin I have many Catholic family.
(Outside my parents who are the odd ball atheists)
I used to TALK like you would to a dear friend to Mother Mary often and Jesus and God the Father.
I don't think I ever got the whole trinity thing as I would talk to The Holy Ghost too.
My family loved St.Christifer but, he is popular.
At about the age where I would have looked and studied other Saints
we had our 1st study with Jehovah's Witnesses.
I was 10 at that time and had already been to many Religions.
They taught me praying to Saints was a sin and I sadly got rid of My Virgin Mary Statue that I realy just used to think of her.
I never used the statue in speaking with her didn't need to as to me she was a constant
companion as well as The Christ and His Father and Holy Ghost.
Of course the JW's were very proud of my getting rid of my crosses and my very loved at the time Statue.
They made me feel better about it and truely as you said you ask the Saints to ask God for the help.
Which is what I did always from a young age when speaking to Mother Mary.
Did she have God answer my prayers? Well a few times as a child I thought so!
But, that would be a different thread about childish fancys
Hey....thanks for bring up this subject and reminding me.....
gave me the warm fuzzys to think of how I would speak with Her......
    for you friend.....
