Its a fact that if you sit on the crapper long enough, you can dream up just about anything. The boys in the writing dept. must have saddle ass by now, after coming up with that jibberish in that Isaiah book. I remember once after a bad mexican meal, thinking I came up with a sure fire cure for cancer..... nope ..just the jalepenos talking.
Does every verse of Isaiah apply to today?

NO verse of Isaiah applies today.
The only verses of the bible that apply today are: "Love God with a whole heart and soul, and love your neighbor as yourself."
Simple, ain't it?

Welcome Far North -and thanks to you and others for the bookstudy update. Fortunately we left before having to start the mind numbing Isaiah book. They will probably never give up the notion that they are the center of the universe.
Best wishes for a liberating 2003!

Only 48 passages in Isaiah are even quoted in the NT, holding any legitimate claim to prophetic significance for Christians, and of these:
12 are non-prophetic general applications (8:12; 22:13; 29:14, 16; 40:6-8, 13; 45:9; 52:7, 11; 56:7; 59:7-8; 66:1-2);
14 are clearly Messianic (7:14; 8:14, 17-18; 9:1-2; 28:16; 40:3-5; 42:1-4; 53:4, 7-8, 9, 12; 54:13; 55:3; 61:1-2) and were fulfilled in the 1st century;
6 have to do with Israel's rejection of Christ (6:9-10; 29:10, 13; 52:5; 53:1; 65:2), and were fulfilled in the 1st century;
4 have to do with the Gentile opportunity (11:10; 49:6; 52:15; 65:1) and were fulfilled in the 1st century;
3 have to do with the formation of the Christian congregation (28:11-12; 49:8; 54:1) and were fulfilled in the 1st century;
4 have to the salvation of Israel (1:9; 10:22-23; 27:9; 59:20-21), and have not been fulfilled;
5 have to do with the final judgement (13:10; 25:8; 34:4; 45:23; 66:24) and have not been fulfilled.
So, out of the almost 1300 verses in Isaiah, only 11 have any possible direct application to our times: 99% of Isaiah is otherwise nothing more than history.

I apologize for my momentary lapse of memory. I have been in hibernation for some time and my brain cell is still waking up. I do remember Isaiah he is the fellow who's left - eye is higher - that his right eye.
