A letter was read this week at the Philadelphia area Kingdom Halls that this year's District Convention will be held in Norphilly (North Philly) at The Liacouras Center (Temple University's indoor arena). This is the first time the Philadelphia district convention will be held indoors.

Here's what people will miss at The Vet (feel free to add to the list):

    1) Fainting from heat exposure

    2) Dehydration

    3) Brother's wearing a mandatory suit while serving as Attendant's sitting on the 140 degree turf

    4) Soaking wet shirts

    5) Squirrels, cats, and rats running throughout the stadium

    6) Dead birds stuck in the netting located above your head in the 300 Section

    7) Hot drinking water from the water fountains

    8) Stinky, stanky bathrooms

    9) Heart attacks

    10) Traffic jams

    Edited for spelling

Haha Funch! Your list sounds like it applies to most JW conventions. I went to the Pontiac Silverdome for all District Conventions as a kid and even though it was indoor it was just as bad...

    I miss:

1 Turning my Watchtower into a homemade fan

2 Laughing at the drama actors lipsynching along with a prerecorded track

3 My dad yelling at us to stay awake and promptly nodding off himself due to the heat

4 Throwing spitwads at said father when he was asleep

5 Finally elbowing said father for his hypocrasy

6 Standing in line at the too few women's bathrooms

District Assemblys were HELL. I went to the Vet, too, and it was the murderous seat of Satan. I don't think there was ever a hotter stadium ever built.

I bet this will save them a lot of money too. Temple University's Arena is much smaller.

Yes. It was hot as hell!

Figures that when we stop going to assemblies they finally change to a new stadium!

What I hated most was the pompous hall walkers holding up their little cards telling people to "Please be seated." I remember when you use to be able to put a blanket in the breezeway and sit there with your kids. They stopped that! Guess too many were having a picnic and taking naps during the very important and interesting assembly talks!

    Ah......sweet memories...........

Good points made by all of you.

Yeah, the ladies' bathroom lines are always horrendous! Oh, and the guys carrying around signs that read 'Please Be Seated' and 'Volunteers Needed'.

Did/do any of you notice that ONLY Pioneer sisters are allowed to sit with the Contribution boxes?

The cynic in me suggests that the real reason for the switch is not of any sudden heightened awareness by the Society of the often barbaric, unhealthful, sweltering conditions that made conventions at the Vet such an ordeal. Rather. it's likely because that old sweatbox is scheduled to be replaced by a brand new state-of-the-art facility and would probably cost a lot more to rent. The Society's hidden agendas are usually money-driven.

The people I know in that area haven't gone to Vets for years; they usually go down to Delaware racetrack or Virginia Beach, wherever there is an indoor convention (or just don't go at all). I have just found out that they WILL NOT be going anywhere near Temple University no matter where they're 'assigned'....

We also just found out that instead of going to the fairgrounds in Louisville, at least some of the folks in Kentucky will be going to Huntington, West Virginie!

    4. Soaking we shirts

I guess I went to the wrong conventions!!! They didn't have wet T-shirt contests at our DCs.

Any poor soul who ever had to endure sitting through a District Assembly at the Vet has already done their time in purgatory.
