Has anyone ever done any research as to what sect of Judaism Jesus was born into? and if so, do you think it was reflected in his teachings? The society always goes into the descriptions and belifs of the Sadduces (spelling?) and the Pharisees, but I don't ever remember them publishing anything as to the backround of Jesus. If anyone has any good info I would find it interesting to see what you have found.

    Thanx!

I would recommend the book: A Marginal Jew: Rethinking the Historical Jesus by John P. Meier

Also: Jesus the Magician by Morton Smith

Could he have been a "Jew for Jesus"? Afterall, if he believed in himself. . . Oh never mind. <grin>

I've heard the arguement, and at least somewhat agree with it, that if Jesus claimed any particular sect of Judaism it was probably that of the Pharisees(and there were eclectic Jews both then and now that claimed no particular branch). Jesus seemed harder on the Pharisees than any others, one is usually more critical of those of our own ilk. Like the pharisees Jesus believed in the resurrection, etc.

Did further research and found out that historians seem to think that he was an Essene. When I looked that up it said that the Jewish Essenes believed in reincarnation, they were vegatarians and kept seperate from the world. Boy that sounds familiar! They also did not seem to think marriage was necessary but was better to remain single. (How did they get more Essenes? LOL!)

You should probably ask what kind of Jew was Moses. Not to mention he made it a law to cut the foreskin, but he also continued using the Egyptian designation after a invocation, "Amen" Actually, he was the first one to use the term in the scriptures.

Numbers 5:22 - may this water that brings the curse pass into your bowels and make your body swell and your thigh fall away.' And the woman shall say, 'Amen, Amen.'

Deuteronomy 27:15 - "'Cursed be the man who makes a graven or molten image, an abomination to the LORD, a thing made by the hands of a craftsman, and sets it up in secret.' And all the people shall answer and say, 'Amen.'

Deuteronomy 27:16 - "'Cursed be he who dishonors his father or his mother.' And all the people shall say, 'Amen.'

Deuteronomy 27:17 - "'Cursed be he who removes his neighbor's landmark.' And all the people shall say, 'Amen.'

Deuteronomy 27:18 - "'Cursed be he who misleads a blind man on the road.' And all the people shall say, 'Amen.'

Deuteronomy 27:19 - "'Cursed be he who perverts the justice due to the sojourner, the fatherless, and the widow.' And all the people shall say, 'Amen.'

Neat! A Jew with chutzpah! My kinda Jew!

    Shalom

He favored none of them. He denounced all of them since he was setting a new precedent for beliefs.....that being Christianity. Every person of every sect was corrected by him in their thinking. He preached a restoration to the Jews who were offspring of Abraham.

He came to the lost..... not the established. He came to sinners.....not "the saved". He himself was from the tribe of Judah.

Actually since his real dad had no ancestery.........was he a Jew at all?
