Vester was obviously overly obsessed with race. His own words and actions make that clear, not just his murderous acts but also his lawsuits and the notion that mass shootings of blacks was abhorrent but mass shootings of non-blacks was inspirational - how much more racist can one be? Unless he has been diagnosed as having mental illness then it is unfair to assume that is the cause. Such claims excuse every other racist murderer which is obviously wrong. Why can't he just be an ugly, unpleasant person?
Some pages previously someone commented about hunting and I want to make clear that I am not against guns at all. I am against inappropriate guns, especially in the wrong hands.
Given that people seem fine with the controls on fully automatic weapons then it seems we're all in agreement with the idea of having some controls. All we disagree about is exactly where those controls apply and which weapons they cover. No one argues that people should be getting on planes with guns for instance and I think the air marshal thing is mostly propaganda than reality because of harsh realities of commercial costs (how much was spent on air fares for them? shouldn't that figure show up in a budget somewhere? why doesn't it?).
I think hunting rifles warrant the least control, especially in places where hunting is common. But if you are in the middle of Chicago, no - you don't get to walk out with a rifle. There needs to be recognition that all places and all guns are not the same.
There is no reason for semi automatic rifles or pistols that have no use in hunting unless they are accompanied by strict training and licensing regimes plus responsibility. It doesn't work if you don't keep your guns secured - they end up in the wrong hands if you don't. Make people responsible for things done with the weapons that they are responsible for. Yes, you'll need to pay insurance premiums to protect yourself against lawsuits. No one is taking your guns off you, your 2nd amendment rights aren't being curtailed - but you are held accountable for your actions and your weapons and what is done with them.
Fully automatic weapons have no place outside the military. Period.
Finally, the 2nd amendment should be re-written to bring it up-to-date. The idea of weapons being necessary to shoot at the government is not just outdated and silly for one of the worlds largest and most established democracies, it's also dangerous and encourages an anti-government, right-to-shoot narratives that sadly convincing to a small few, dangerous people.
