Link asks about the building of Kingdom Halls - yes, there are several funds aimed at helping the poorer nations and areas / congregations in constructing KHs. International workers are sent, donations of construction material are sent (for example one country in Northern Europe sent all the cement needed for the constuction of the branch office in a big African country), and money is donated. KHs and branch offices in the "new" Eastern European countries / Russia etc. have been constructed because of these aid programs.

For every 1 pound donated the goverment will give them an extra 28p if it is donated under the Gift Aid arrangement.
what kind of law ist that??? thats crazy!
The UK Government has for many years encouraged the giving to charities.
This is how it works, Tax Payers pay income tax, this usually deducted at source from our wages its called PAYE (pay as you earn). If a Tax Payer gives to any registered Charity, the Tax office (Inland Revenue) will refund the Tax paid (at source and collected by the Inland Revenue) by the giver to named Charity.
The Government is not giving anything away, just refunding the Tax taken already, so if I give to a Registered Charity a Pound, the Tax Man will give the Tax I paid on that pound to the Charity that is 28 pence. Just shows you how much Tax we pay in the UK!!!!!!
The local Congregation is registered as a charity, and also is the IBSA W/Tower. Many people give to charities in the UK; this helps many different causes, such as relief funds, childrens charities, animal welfare and foreign aid.

Thanks to T O H and frogit for your information.
I have just checked the Charity Commission site and note the following:
MEMORANDUM AND ARTICLES OF ASSOCIATION. DATE OF INCORPORATION: 30TH JUNE 1914 AND THREE SPECIAL RESOLUTIONS, DATED 2ND NOVEMBER 1949, 20TH APRIL 1951, 10TH JANUARY 1958
How come they were busy incorporating the IBSA just a few months before the end of the system (or Armageddon depending on which version you chose to believe)???
On a more serious note, take a look at the income that is shown for the ISBA on the Charity Commission web site. For 2000/01 it was almost 12 million U.K pounds and in the same period another 15 million plus was donated to the WTB&TS. In total over 27 million U.K. pounds!!!
Can anyone shed some light on where all this money comes from and where it all goes? Bear in mind this is just the U.K. There is another $1 billion floating around in the U.S.A.

Hey link,
A lot of people ask where the money goes. Basically, it is reinvested back into the org. When you consider the immense size of the Society's holdings in over 100 countries and the size of their publishing operations, it is not hard to see that the Society spends massive sums. Many people point out that the branch offices are staffed by volunteers. However, there a number of studies that show that over the long run volunteer labor is often more expensive. At Brooklyn, the Society's Laundry department cost much more than if it were outsourced. I believe the same would hold true for Food Service and other departments. (Though not Construction--the Society does save money there.)
Hope this helps,
James

I left Bethel a year ago and I still get a letter every month asking me to pay $13.87 for phone calls and food I bought during my last week at Bethel. Lol
James, send them $13.88 and tell them to keep the change. Bug

It sounds similar to what happens in Canada: taxpayers submit receipts for charitable donations with their income tax returns every year. The taxpayer may then qualify for a 17% (approx) credit of that amount donated on their annual return. The credit goes back to the taxpayer, and it can be used to reduce the amount of tax payable, basically the taxpayer gets a refund for 17% of the amount of their donation.
Rather than allowing the congregation members to decide HOW THEY WANT TO SPEND THEIR TAX REFUND, the WTS is basically TELLING THEM HOW TO SPEND IT: Give it to US.
It was less than 2 weeks ago that I said: "Everything the Society says boils down to this: Give us your money. Give us your time, using it to find people to give us their money. Then give us more money and more time. Be prepared to kill yourself when we say so."
