Pleasure,
As in Capitalist in name only?
What do you propose we shall become?
china in all but name
Are you suggesting that we will become some sort of Chinese style dictatorship? Or a Chinese Lackey?
Either way its pretty funny
Pleasuredome,
China is Communist in name only
and the US is soon to be in the same league...
Unfortunately, I happen to agree with you. On the other hand, we deserve exactly what we get. We put assholes into positions of leadership and we get asshole laws. When so many of the American people will stop asking for the Government to make this Country a welfare state, we may be able to get our freedoms back. Otherwise, the USA will go down in the dustheap of history as a champion of freedoms and initiative.

North Korea is a lot more sinister and scary than most people are aware. They are a starving "hermit" nation. Which makes them especially dangerous because they have NOTHING to loose.
Oh yes, and the crackpot dictator they have isn't great news either.
The biggest threats they pose are selling their weapons to terrorists, which they have done before and will do again. All it takes is cash to convince them. And the other threat is that of causing an arms race in Asia. Japan is freaked out, China is not at all happy, and other neighboring countries are pondering starting their own weapons building operations.
Meanwhile people are starving and dying as political prisioners.
Some info on their "crackpot" leader:
North Korean leader loves Hennessey, Bond moviesBy Wolf Blitzer WASHINGTON (CNN) --So who exactly is Kim Jong Il? We, of course, know he's the leader of North Korea. We know he took power after his father, Kim Il Sung, died. We know he's a mysterious figure. But what else do we know about this man who may already have two nuclear bombs and controls the fourth largest military in the world -- one million heavily armed forces only miles away from nearly 40,000 U.S. troops in South Korea? While his country is starving, he builds nuclear bombs! "Here's a guy who is very concerned about his physical stature, among other things," says Dr. Jerold Post, a former CIA psychologist who now heads the Political Psychology program at George Washington University. "He's 5-foot-2 and wears four-inch lifts in his shoes." Short in stature, short in brains! Dr. Post, in his study of the Korean dictator, says Kim Jong Il also loves to drink a certain Hennessey cognac that sells for $630 a bottle in Korea. "He is the largest customer over the last 10 years, averaging between $650,000 and $720,000 a year in purchases -- while the average [North] Korean earns only about $900 a year." While his country starves! There are other strange details about this man, according to Dr. Post. "He's recruited these 'joy brigades,' where he finds these attractive young women as early as junior high to entertain senior officials." Kim Jong Il also lives in a seven-story "pleasure palace," Post says, "and sees himself as a great creative force." He messes around with children while his country starves! Dr. Post recalls that Kim Jong Il once kidnapped the most prominent South Korean movie star and kept her under house arrest with her husband for eight years." While his country starves! Another tidbit about this man: He has a collection of some 20,000 videotapes, including the James Bond movie collection. "He is fascinated by the media and in fact cruises the Web as well," he says. He watches videos while his country starves! But would he launch an attack? "There's certainly concerns he could get carried away, and the degree to which he believes his own propaganda that he is the creator of -- is certainly one of our impressions." I think that Saddam and Jong both probably hatched from the same egg. Mrs. Shakita http://english.joins.com/Article.asp?aid=20030110040002&sid=200 |

Xander,
As usual I take issue with your entire premise. Israel, though it does have the nuke, isn't guilty of exporting war and weapons as is NK. Further, like it or not, the US is the only world super power, we're the big guys on the block. We can, in some sense, make the rules, and yes, that is fair. The other option is to abdicate our leadership role in the world and eventually become a thrid rate country with a standard of living no higher than that of Mexico.
Farkel,
I say, take them out and liberate their poor citizens, too. The US can easily handle full-scale war with them and Sadaam at the same time.
In the last sixty years, going into full-scale War with the US and its allies and losing has been the BEST thing that ever happened to countries. We're the only Country in the history of mankind (to my knowledge) that rebuilds countries we've vanquished, gives them a free society, and hands the country back to them, and does this to Countries who attacked us first with the goal of our destruction.
NK is not as poorly equipped as saddam. they have quite sophisticated anti aircraft missiles...so the Us couldn't just fly over there and bomb them. this would be quite a lossy war. besides NK has most likely already 2 nuclear warheads ...and they would use them as a last resort.
by the way...the Us rebuilds only countries they need. germany against the russians...south korea against the north. the US is NOT a charity!!!
Realist
North Korea is not as big a threat as they think they are. Kim Suck Dong or whatever the little prick's name is needs to remember that there is no longer any massive commie superpower like the Soviets to back his little hillbilly ass up.
Wasn't all that long ago, one of his neighbors tried to take us on. He needs to talk to Japan about what happened.
Mike.
