Hi Kelps
Hells Bells...I saw the devastation on the news...it was shocking to say the least.
So glad to hear you are doing okay...and that you and yours are safe n sound. My little brother was in Canberra over the weekend and he emailed with news of all that he saw and heard. He said it sure was spectacular...and the smoke and dark gloom.
I hope those who have been worst affected get the help they need...and glad to hear you're okay Kelps.
Hugs
~Beck~
ps..today we have smoke everywhere....i'm not sure where the fire is (local) but it sure is making the air thick with smoke and stinking hot

kelpie, I'm sorry that you're having to go through such a stressful situation. Am I mistaken to think that some knuckleheads in Australia cause those fires? I would want to burn those buttheads if that's the case. It's pathetic that some people would make life so miserable for others.

Kelpie, and barry, glad to know that you're both safe. What a conflagration Life in Ozland just hasn't been fun this last year.
Hugs to all of you that are stuck in the middle of that hell.

Luckily or unluckily these fires in canberra that caused so much damaged was caused by 3 separete ligthening strikes and the fires combined to form a 35 km long fire front...
Gizmo, Yes we are fine, it is still very smokey but the danger has pasted. Canberra is safe for now...
My heart and thanks goes out to all the fire fighters that have worked tirelessly to help. The fire came through like a huge fire ball, literealy pulling whole trees out of the ground as it went. It jumped from roof to roof of houses, missing some, taking whole streets in other cases. Just unbelieavable.
Giz, bliss is ok. i saw her in chat today..

Thanks Steph. for the bttt lesson
siegswife we do have buttheads that like lighting fires deliberately, and Australia at the moment is a tinderbox waiting to go up, any small spark can start a major blaze, but like Kelpie said most are started cos of nature or accidently.
We have fires all over but by far the ACT fires seem to be worst, Mt Hotham a popular ski resort in Victoria, isn't looking too crash hot at the moment either, near where I live we have had 2 fires in bushland area in the last couple of weeks 1 delibaretly lit. No one was hurt and no houses lost...but it's still early in our summer here, if we don't get rain this year guys, we're gonna be in serious trouble me thinks.
My Country - Dorothea MacKellar
The love of field and coppice,
Of green and shaded lanes,
Of ordered woods and gardens
Is running in your veins;
Strong love of grey-blue distance
Brown streams and soft dim skies -
I know but cannot share it,
My love is otherwise.
I love a sunburnt country,
A land of sweeping plains,
Of ragged mountain ranges,
Of droughts and flooding rains.
I love her far horizons,
I love her jewel-sea,
Her beauty and her terror-
This wide brown land for me.
The stark white ring-barked forests,
All tragic to the moon,
The saphirre misted mountains,
The hot gold hush of noon,
Green tangle of the brushes
Where lithe lianas coil,
And orchids deck the tree-tops,
And ferns the warm dark soil.
Core of my heart, my country!
Her pitiless blue sky,
When sick at heart around us
We watch the cattle die -
But then the grey clouds gather,
And we can bless again
The drumming of an army,
The steady soaking rain.
Core of my heart, my country!
Land of the rainbow gold,
For flood and fire and famine
She pays us back threefold.
Over the thirsty paddocks
Watch, after many days,
The filmy veil of greenness
That thickens as we gaze
An opal hearted country,
A wilful, lavish land-
All you who have not loved her,
You will not understand -
Though earth holds many splendours,
Wherever I may die,
I know to what brown country
My homing thoughts will fly.Aussie Aussie Aussie
