I play at fics under the same handle. freechess.org, register a handle, then use an interface like Winboard. Don't you HAVE to use a pay server like ICC for Blitzin? With Winboard you can play for free on fics. I'm currently 1895 USCF. Hooty hoo! An all-time high. OK, I'm a nerd. To me, it is the most facinating game ever invented. Whatever your playing level, the game is absolutely fascinating. For the society to get down on it like they did 30 years ago is absolutely asinine!

cool that there are so many people interested in chess...we should make a tournament sometime!
ICC is free by the way...it asks you each time you log in if you want to register (which costs like 20 bucks a year) or otherwise you can play as guest for free.
PS: chess is considered satanic by the WT???...no wonder i like it so much!

My son and I also play chess. There is a local chess club that has tournaments, and we played in the Regina Open last month, which is a CFC (Canadian Chess Federation) rated tournament. I won $40.

I play chess. I beat everybody I know. But, then again, I don't know that many who play chess. *sigh*

I am another girl that plays chess, but more of the coffee shop variety. I won't waste brain space on memorizing openings. Once and a while I get sucked in to that one-two punch that mates the King in three (or something like that). It feels great, however, to beat a guy once in a while. They take it so hard.
I think chess players are better at strategizing in life. We can plan several moves in advance. We consider possible counter moves, and how they might be blocked. I can usually nudge my co-workers in the direction I want them to go, once I have them figured out. Please don't tell.
