In its own defence, The Adelaide congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses said doorknocking was voluntary and followers were not obliged to do it.
Everyone knows that a person has to do Field Service in order to be qualified for baptism. You cannot even qualify to carry the MICs if you don't get a least 10 hours a month in FS.

Now that's a career limiting move (spiritual career, that is). Wouldn't this get them disfellowshipped for causing divisions?
I wonder if the Hawthornes themselves sued the cong, or if they made an insurance claim and the insurance company sued in their name.
Either way, a fine witness was given to the community.
