Its been a pretty wierd day. Its 40 degrees outside and the suffocation factor thru airlessness is way over that. The Bushfires 200 miles away have lowered a pall of dense smoke over the entire city and you can smell the burnt wood smell. Until noon today the sun was a glaring red orb in the sky thru the dense smoke, after that, visibility increased to slightly more than 500 yards. All day there has been a wierd pink light over everything, like the light might have been before the "flood" when the water canopy shielded the earth from the suns full ferocity.Oddly this pink light made the greens of the trees even greener than usual. The pall of smoke seems to increase the heat making 40 degrees MORE than 40 degrees somehow. I think of being in America where posters are complaining about it being cold.
I couldnt help thinking , on and off, all day, that there will be "signs in the sun moon and heavens". THe dub in me coming out. If fires 200 miles away can do this....well, it makes you realize how tenuous everything COULD be in the face of an Asteroid crashing into earth, the detonation of a half dozen nukes.
The all Australian nightmare:
