Red Sun Iron Sky

Its been a pretty wierd day. Its 40 degrees outside and the suffocation factor thru airlessness is way over that. The Bushfires 200 miles away have lowered a pall of dense smoke over the entire city and you can smell the burnt wood smell. Until noon today the sun was a glaring red orb in the sky thru the dense smoke, after that, visibility increased to slightly more than 500 yards. All day there has been a wierd pink light over everything, like the light might have been before the "flood" when the water canopy shielded the earth from the suns full ferocity.Oddly this pink light made the greens of the trees even greener than usual. The pall of smoke seems to increase the heat making 40 degrees MORE than 40 degrees somehow. I think of being in America where posters are complaining about it being cold.

I couldnt help thinking , on and off, all day, that there will be "signs in the sun moon and heavens". THe dub in me coming out. If fires 200 miles away can do this....well, it makes you realize how tenuous everything COULD be in the face of an Asteroid crashing into earth, the detonation of a half dozen nukes.

    The all Australian nightmare:

    RF,

I was just thinking of writing something similar, a very weird ambience in the air, very eerie indeed, the smoke chokes you the moment you step outside the door, and that strange glow in the distance is almost supernatural. Tomorrow we are told will be even worse.

Everything is so dry, when you walk on the lawn, if one still has a lawn, you can almost here it screaming underneath your feet.

Sure hope we get rain soon.

Giz. One of the corners of my house theres a giant crack appeared in the brickwork. Apparently, (according to the news tonight) this is happening a lot at the moment. the ground is so dry its shrinking way beyond normal. Ive never seen the trees so dry in my 35 years here. If we get that wind in mid Febuary and it goes up...it will go up big time.

    Hmmmmm

I better check around the house tomorrow, haven't noticed any cracks yet, hope there are none, could become quite expensive to fix, and I don't think insurance covers this kind of damage.

We just have to wait and see if it's our turn next I guess. Total fireban tomorrow, 40+

    Ouch.

    Yes Debz and RF,

Very spooky, but I'm not ready to start reading revelation again just yet...hehehehe.

I remeber back in the 80's, whenMelbourne was hit by a Red Sandstorm, from the Malle, all the birds panicked and went to their nests in the middle of the day, and I remember later how most of the dubs, myself included thought this was it...lol, funny how when you're controlled by fear how the mind leans that way huh?

You guys remeber that day? I was in the city and just watched in awe as it enveloped the whole area and so quickly.

So glad you reminded me of that Giz........I remember that clearly and I remember thinking it was armageddon at the time.....not a good feelking when you`ve just been DF`ed..lolol.......but remember it well that was eerie too....similiar to now..

    all the birds panicked

They've been doing that behind my house since 1999. Every time the 'slave' says Armageddon is here., they gather behind my house and laugh at me. But every time the "slave" postpones armageddon, I laugh at them.

I'm sorry about those fires overthere. Sounds awesome though.

    Thanks Avengers

I get a bit nervous about the fires....I`m not too far from the YouYangs (aboriginal name) which is a small hilly area and VERY dry and full of bush - if a fire started there would be hard to contain it.....Yes its been a bit unnerving of late......thanks for your concern...
