Isn't it strange how the WTS makes a habit of disposing of "old light" by selling it to the public!!!
How can this be supplying "meat in due season" and "food at the proper time"?

QUOTE/..Nowhere within the pages of C.T. Russell's writings, is there a thought alluding to worshipping him. Never did he ever claim to be "That Faithful and Wise Servant" mentioned in Matthew 24:45-48. Yes ... there were those in his day who believe he filled that office, members of the Association, some representatives of the Watch Tower Society, but Russell never made such a claim for himself
The first published mention of the Slave being an individual rather than a group is in the WT of March 1896. The subject is raised again in the WTs of April 15, and May 1, 1904. And again (very strongly) in the WT of October 1, 1909.
Considering this, and the fact that Russell was viewed as the slave in the WT magazine during the 1920s, the interpretation of Russell as the Slave was around the WT organization for 3 0 years .

Refiner, Maria Russell was the one who made Russell "that slave" of course he never denied nor confirmed it. Later he taught that "the slave" was not an individual but all true christians faithful in their walk with the Lord, and still some years later he gave a whole interpretation of the chapter as to why he felt "that slave" was an individual.
So while during Russell's life time, there were those who believed he was "that Servant", Russell NEVER claimed he was, it was not the official teaching of the Watchtower until AFTER he died.

Later in the year 1927 any remaining stocks of the six volumes of Studies in the Scriptures by Russell and of The Finished Mystery were disposed of among the public.....
It took quite a long time for them to dispose of them, since I remember some of the Studies volumes appearing on the Literature Cost List as available items when I became a JW in the late 1960's.
1976 was the last time I saw mention of the volumes Neon, I remember reading in the announcement section of the KM, OUT OF STOCK: THE BATTLE OF ARMAGEDDON

Hey RR.
In the April 15, 1904 Watchtower, Article , LIKE UNTO MEN WHO WAIT FOR THEIR LORD Mr Russell could not escape the unavoidable conclusion that the FDS was an individual person. Under the subheading, THE FAITHFUL AND WISE STEWARD:
QUOTE/..We would naturally enough endeavor to interpret our Lord's words as signifying a composite steward-- that is that a certain number or class of brethren together would constitute the steward of this parable. In endeavoring to make such an interpretation we are met with several difficulties, however
Mr Russell would of course endeavour to see the slave as a COMPOSITE because modesty forbids the prospect of an INDIVIDUAL servant. Besides there is another consideration:
QUOTE/ To suppose such a class in the Church would be to recognize what is elsewhere denied--to recognize a clerical or authoritative class as distinct and separate from the remainder of the Church, because this steward is to dispense the meat in due season to the household, to the fellow-servants. The Church of Christ, we hold, is not composed of clergy and laity, but "ye are all one in Christ Jesus, and one is your Master, even Christ.".
The hated possibility of TWO CLASSES within the church. Clergy and Laity. Or Those going to heaven, and those living on the earth forever. lol. Even the immodest possibility of the slave being an individual is preferable to the hated two classes possibility, and so:
QUOTE/..There would be no violation of principle, however, in supposing that the Lord at the time indicated would specially use one member of his Church as the channel or instrument through which he would send the appropriate messages, spiritual nourishment appropriate at that time; because at various times in the past the Lord has used individuals in such a manner. For instance, Peter used the "keys" of the Kingdom of heaven at Pentecost, and again at the home of Cornelius, and in both places he was used as a special servant in connection with the dispensing of special truths. This did not constitute Peter a lord over the other apostles or over the Church, but merely a servant
And so, reluctantly, Russell must accept the lesser of two evil possibilities. Of course Russell made very sure to clarify that he didnt DESIRE such an elevated position. He did this in the very next issue of the WT. That of May 1, 1904. Article. ONLY THE HUMBLE SHALL BE EXALTED. I guess Poor Mr Russell was torn between his own humility and the fact that God appeared to be THRUSTING greatness upon him.
QUOTE/It was at this time that James and John approached the Lord in a private manner. Matthew tells us that their mother Salome was with them and really made the request for them in their names. Salome is supposed to have been the sister of Mary, the aunt of Jesus, in which event James and John were his full cousins. Realizing that matters were drawing to a crisis they sought of the Lord an assurance that they two might be very close to him in the Kingdom, one on his right hand and one on his left, the two positions of chiefest favor. .Our Lord did not reprove them, for doubtless he read in their hearts a great love and loyalty toward himself; and the desire for the positions indicated not merely the desire for the honors and authority implied, but specially because this would bring them closer to himself. Had the Lord seen in their hearts an evil form of ambition, undoubtedly he would have reproved it on the spot..
Thats pretty much the recurring theme of the article. Any individual who might be the FDS would not of course DESIRE the power and AUTHORITY of that position. No, no, Such a one would only be eager to serve and to be rewarded by being closer to Jesus in the kingdom. Yeah, right. I just dont buy it.
Refiner ... you obviously have too much time on your hands ... get a life man and stop reading between the lines.
