I wasnt offended by your statement, I was more amazed. Most people here seem to care, the jerkoffs are of a minority and pick at you out of frustration in thier own insecurities.

My brother in law is going to take me to Anderson where the Social Security Office is located which is a 45 min drive from here and apply for SSI since that's what I originally had lived on when I was at Center on Deafness. If you have already qualified for SSI in the past, it should be fairly easy for you to get back on. Were you taken off SSI because you were working steadily for some length of time?
Both my husband and daughter are disabled and on SSI, and I know that they allow you a certain amount of time to try working, and if it doesn't work out, you can just get right back on the program without re-applying. Please check into this.
Also, being on SSI, you will be able to attend college or some other job-training situation at no cost to you. Also, many times employees are given incentives for hiring a disabled person, and you may find that a job is available for you under that program.
Yes I was taken off when I started working full time at the age of 19 and I lost my SSI pretty soon after my first paycheck. I haven't been back on SSI since then. Looks like I will be back on it soon.
I think from reading on the news about the unemployment status going up, alot of folks who were on unemployment benefits lost it all as of January 1st of this year because of new rules went into effect (I think that was the reason). Another reason was 9/11 hurt the economy and currently the economy isn't all that great right now. Things just doesn't look all that good.

I'm trying to. I just feel powerless to be able to change things for the better and not lose my home of 8 years.

Whoa! This isn't right!! According to SSI rules, you have a 9-month trial period to try working full-time. If anything happens during that period so that you can't continue working, you can just get right back on SSI.
If they didn't explain this to you, I think you have a major gripe against the Social Worker assigned to you for the SSI program. If they took you off SSI and didn't explain your rights to a trial work period, you may be able to get some back compensation, and they should just reinstate your benefits.
If necessary, check with a lawyer who deals with SSI cases. They generally won't charge for an initial consultation, and if they feel that your rights have been violated, they will fight the case for you for a percentage of whatever is recovered.

Hmmm, was this rule around back in the 1980s???
How long has this rule been around?
I was never told that. I was told if I got a full time job, I am to report it right away and they stopped my benefits after that. My caseworker never said anything about the 9 month thing.

I've been concerned about your situation, too, since I have not seen many postings from you lately. Did the Salvation Army guy get back to you? If the Indianapolis office can't help you, he should have given you another email addy from an office closer to you that CAN help. I just can't imagine the Salvation Army allowing you to be evicted from your home when you are trying soooo hard to find work.
Also getting your car in running order is a must for working, too. Therfore the SA should be able to help with that if it is a minor problem that has caused it to not work right now.

SA never replied to any of my emails.
Perhaps if you can call them on my behalf. I sent two different emails in one week apart with no replies.

I wish I could, but I don't know your name or even your email addy, because it is locked on this forum.
I don't even know really what town you live in. Whithout this info, I'm unabe to plead your case. But please don't post anything but your email addy to this forum, as it would not be wise giving your name out on this forum.
Why not have your brother make the phone call for you? He could ask to talk to Howard Green at 1-317-937-7000.

I don't know about the 1980s. My husband was granted disability in the early 90s, and my daughter was granted disability in the mid-90s, so I'm not sure if this ruling has been in place prior to that time.
I would say, though, that it would be worth your while to check it out.
NewLight2,
You got mail
