Three men checked into a hotel room for which they paid $30. The next day, the manager realized that the men had been overcharged. She gave the bellhop $5 to return to the three men. On the way to their room the bellhop decided to keep $2 for himself, and give each of the three men one dollar. The three men had now paid $9 each, or a total of $27. This plus the $2 the bellhop kept makes a total of $29. What happened to the other dollar?

Your adding the wrong numbers, included in the $27 is the $2 the bell hop kept, add the $3 instead of adding the $2 twice. In actuallity the customers were suppose fo have paid $25 for the room the bellhop kept $2 and gave back $3 for a total of $30. 30 - 5= 25, 25+ 2 = 27, 27+ 3= 30

Its a good thing the belhop kept some. Because if he had returned the entire $5, the three guests would have paid a collective $25, plust the $0 that the bell hop kept, and we would be missing the entire $5. How can that be good for the economy?
As a matter of fact, if the bell hop had kept the entire $5, the guest would have paid 30, plus the $5 the bell hop kept - now the Gross National Product would be increased by $5. You see, more hotel employee thievery would bail this economy right out of its doldrums.
