No one likes to be insulted and called names.

No one likes to be guilted into giving anything that they dont want to either. I'm not trying to be mean but there are so many times one can say

"hope it all works out for ya Yiz"

before people stop meaning it. If you look at this thread even as opposed to the first one of the "send me money" series, there were TONS of replies of people wishing him well... myself included. The only reason this threads has as many posts as it does it because there are some of us who are getting tired of being asked to take care of him. There were only 3 or 4 people actually saying, "hope it all works out for ya Yiz".

We dont either, but it sure does smell rotten, and people do not like to be lied to or conned.

Simply put, I dont mind wishing someone well, or hopping that they will come out of a bad situation. But if someone came to me and EVERY WEEK, for almost 7 weeks straight, asked for money.... I would , and have, become very tired of it. I would doubt the sincerity of this person in regards to their situation.

Yiz, go talk to the united way... they will help you out.

Your user name truly fits you. There is NO REASON what so ever to call NL what you did. It is unexcusable! NL appears to be a very caring person and is trying to argue that people should be nice to Yiz.

Your lack of maturity in your comments reflects the kind of person you truly are.

well I was going to email yiz privately, but his email is restricted, so I have no clue if this will ever get to him or not. But I just wanted to say that I have been in dire straits and I have gotten help from elists and forums and message boards. I have been honest, and gotten flamed. But I have also gotten good ideas and suggestions and even money help. And I live in a place right now that does not help anyone, becoz it is very poor and depressed economically. I have been turned down by Catholic Charities and people who you thought were not allowed to turn you down.So I dont know if he is telling the truth or not, but I do knowthat there have been times when I was so desperate for some kind of relief that I would have done just about anything to get the attention. I wanted to suggest St Vincent De Paul Society, and the local Center for Independent Living--usually the Senior Center or Meals-On-Wheels would know about the CILs^ if no one else does. And your local Social Security Office has resources for people to call too. There is also local civic groups like the Moose Lodge, The Eagles, Lions, VFW, even Masons. A local hospital ER or Psych dept has social workers who can advise you. And if worse comes to worse, go sit on the steps of your nearest catholic Church until they call the cops! do anything to get attention---the squeaky wheel gets the grease. Voc Rehab is a good start. But frankly I like Independent Living Centers better--they are more geared toward people who are challenged but capable(usually the Voc Rehabs deal more with mental retardation and disabilities and only train people to work in factories or menial labor).

Anyway Yiz, dont give up. Where would people like Hellen Keller be if they gave up? It took me 7years to financially recover enough from my JW experience to be in a position to even give the guy on the corner a dollar for a cup of coffee and a donut. And if I had more than that to give people in need I would. Becoz people have helped me. People who didn't even know me. (One on this board in fact with a quite substantial amount of money-way more than what Yiz asked for. I will not forget it, and I will pay it back.)
