Of all the ways to kill people, why be so stupid as to use nerve agents banned under international treaties? Something's wrong with this picture. The Russians aren't stupid. Either they wanted to send a message and were willing to pay the price or it was a false flag attack.

Either Putin sanctioned this or there are elements operating independently of his power.

This possibility must be seriously considered.

Perhaps there is some kind of Game of Thrones battle going on in Russia between Putin and somebody with deep connections to the military, capable of getting that toxin. Putin may have been framed by another potential oligarch, maybe tied to a competing wing of the Russian mafia. There are always competing factions in organized crime.

Apparently, according to The Moscow Times, accessing that nerve agent back in the 90s during the collapse of the Soviet Union wasn't that difficult

POISONED RUSSIAN SPY LINKED TO TRUMP-RUSSIA DOSSIER AUTHOR CHRISTOPHER STEELE THROUGH SECURITY CONSULTANT

    http://www.newsweek.com/russia-poison-spy-steele-dossier-836768

Who has a possible motivation to kill a Russian linked to the creation of the now discredited Trump Russia Dossier?

It covers her tracks, and in blaming it on Russia it continues the smokescreen that has been ongoing since Trump's election.

Poisoned Russian spy Sergei Skripal was close to consultant who was linked to the Trump dossier

On the basis that it is Russia that has done this I can see why Putin or some high up Russian security service leader might do this.

    Pour encourager les autres.

So that anyone thinking of being a traitor - even after "only" having served a prison term - knows that the axe could fall at anytime.

A clean, 'hit" (As in jabbing the target with a needle) is bad enough.

An airborne delivery, which contaminates an area, seriously injuring or perhaps even killing first responders is, at best an act of terrorism and at worst, an act of war.
