    G'day all,

Gotta make this one quick 'cos Simon's thinking about pulling the board down for a day to facilitate the changeover.

Hope your weekend's going OK. Heck, it should be, Arsenal knocked ManU outa the cup and the Socceroos thrashed the Poms at soccer!!!!!!!!!

This weekend's poll question comes from Mrs Ozzie. This morning we were talking about when we used to go to the meetings and Mrs Ozzie remarked about all the excuses people came up with for missing them. So how about you? How were your excuses? Now come on, you can be honest here!!

    So, this weekend's question is:

How many excuses did you have for missing the meetings?

    1. None ( I never missed the meetings!)

    2. None ( I never made excuses!!!!!!!!) [I'm a liar too!]

    3. One or two. (I felt so GUILTY.)

    4. Three or four (I didn't really care for them, but I "knew" I should be there.)

    5. Five or six (I was a real 'rebel'; I didn't like them, and I didn't like the elders either!)

    6. Seven to ten (I just didn't want to get any "privileges" anyway.)

    7. I forget, there were so many!

Don't forget to get your "entries" in quick. Have fun.

    Cheers, Ozzie

I never gave excuses. When approached about my meeting attendance by some elder wearing white sox with a green plaid business suit fresh off the rack from K-Mart, a pale blue shirt shirt frizzy around the collar and dirty under the arm with a bow tie that lit up in the dark, I copped a look on my face as if I had found a dead gerbil in my pocket, turned on my heel and stalked off.

During those years, I cultivated as nasty an attitude as one could possibly have and be allowed to remain in the human race. Thus, I was outright nastier than most elders, at least outwardly. I would not hesitate to tell an elder to his face in a crowd of other JWs that I thought he was crazier than a loon and then wondered aloud if he was still using an electric meter in his cleaning business to steal electricity from the power company. Then it was the ELDER who would stalk off. I loved playing this game. As a result, I was left strictly alone. What's a little bad attendence when the attendee in question would likely "out" you in front of the whole congregation for grand theft - electric, having an unapproved electric meter, and littering. As I said, I loved this little game. After a few years of this I tired of the game as any adult would likely do and left for good. After getting one particularly noxious elder removed from the list. THAT was the high point of my entire ministry. Sad, ain't it?

BTW, Oz ol' buddy. I asked you months ago about Yellowtail Chard and never got a response (that I was aware of) so tonight I bought a bottle for my charming wife, Killer, and she pronounced it very drinkable. I had a sip and it did seem to be quite good. I can't wait to get off these narcotics so I can go back to being a high-end lush. Lots more fun.

    G'day Frank,

Just a quickie. Sorry if I didn't respond, I thought I had. Anyway, I've looked in many places (honestly!), even as recently as yesterday for Yellowtail, all to no avail I'm afraid.

OK I'll keep looking.....but why no shiraz?

    Cheers, Ozzie

    #3 Without the "guilty."

When I deliberately stayed home (not "missed" but "stayed home") from meetings, it was for one reason, and one reason only: I couldn't stomach my own hypocrisy.

When I undeliberately stayed home, it was also because of my stomach.

Sort of a common denominator, hmmmm?

#3 If there were occasions where meeting attendance was impossible, we would come up with an excuse of some sort, and yes we did usually feel pangs of guilt. That was while we were "towing the line". Toward the end of our activity, we could find any excuse(s) not to be at the hall, and now we just don't care. I ran into a witness the other day whom we've known for the entire tenure of our being witnesses and when he asked how our meeting attendance has been, I said it doesn't exist period and mygawd you'd think the world had come to an end. I was on the receiving end of a half hour lecture on the importance of "staying close to Jehovah and his organization, blah, blah, blah.It truly was amazing. No not Amazing! It will be interesting to see how this plays out, as my workplace is in this guy's territory, and the KH is but two blocks away.
