    The thinking is "soul" (lifeforce)

The WT explanation makes zero sense. They just don't want people believing that they will be conscious after they die. That idea might cause people to dig a little deeper than the pages of a WT rag.

Think about it: Dead souls of believers that are killed during the Great Tribulation end up in heaven, thinking, remembering, talking etc. That's a lot more than a "life force"!

    Rev. 6 -

And when he had opened the fifth seal, I saw under the altar the souls of them that were slain for the word of God, and for the testimony which they held:

10 And they cried with a loud voice, saying, How long, O Lord, holy and true, dost thou not judge and avenge our blood on them that dwell on the earth?

11 And white robes were given unto every one of them; and it was said unto them, that they should rest yet for a little season, until their fellowservants also and their brethren, that should be killed as they were, should be fulfilled.

Now the WT can't have dead souls in heaven can they? Why, because JW's supposedly don't go to heaven. And, we can't have JW's wondering where they will be conscious after death if they are not in heaven can we?

Yes, I remember asking my mom why we sing that song, if we don’t have a soul, and she told me not to think so much, or I’d think myself right out of the truth lol.

Since " your soul is you" , I was once told "they can kill your soul but they can't keep it dead"

Witnesses do not appreciate that the doctrine of soul-sleep, or mortalism goes way back among Christian groups and seems to have been brought from the old Adventists. I have read that Seventh Day Adventists believe it too.

I must begin my therapy again. Those old songs make me want to hit myself on the head with an atom bomb.

Are you guys getting doctrinally rusty? Of course scripture forces JW to say we have a soul. Just not an immortal one that can live on without the body. It is the inner man etc. Therefore it is important to be in Jehovah's memory. I would imagine they think the verse in question speaks of the second death? Jehovah would raise those who accepted Jehovah's org and remained loyal as well as the ignorant masses of the the time prior to JW.org. But if you become disloyal to JW.org, then your soul is killed when you die or the great A comes

It's still in the song book BUT-- while that line about body and soul used to be sung at the end of every verse in the chorus, they changed that part done you only sing it once, so as not to draw too much attention to this problematic scripture
