Today I found out that my dad committed suicide, probably on Sunday sometime. His body was found today and the Plano Police Department called me. I am numb and grieving, kind of relieved for a lot of reasons, and very very sad. I miss the dad I had growing up. I'm sorry for the man I watched deteriorate the past two years. I'll probably write more another time.

I'm so sorry to hear this news. I understand some of what you're going through, because I'm dealing with the very recent loss of my grandmother, and having many regrets too.
Know that you are very loved by so many of us here. We care very much for you, now and always.

Thanks. Your friendship REALLY means a lot. BTW, I just got off the phone with the PO of my dad's congregation. He had the gall to call to tell me how sorry he was and he would make sure to maybe visit me "sometime" (I didn't answer the phone when he called -- hooray for Caller ID -- so he left a message). I debated a good 20 minutes and then called him back and let him have it. All he'd heard was that my dad was dead and he tried a little platitude about how, well, we're never really prepared for these things. So I told him, you're right, I wasn't prepared for it -- my dad shot himself. Once he started stuttering I launched into a tirade about how the congregation's hypocrisy and lack of love contributed to my father's death and told him that only two people in the congregation, family friends, were welcome to come to my father's memorial service, which will be at his retirement home this Saturday. And then I hung up on him while he was searching for Standard Grief Answer #76.

Im so sorry. My sympathy to you and your family.
Sorry to hear about your Dad. Suicides are especially hard to take. You must understand, however, that when people take their own lives, they are not in their right minds. Don't hold it against him. Try to remember the good times and let the rest go.

Nina I can feel some of your pain. My dad died over 20 years ago and I still recall that phone call in the middle of the night. Guess I'll never forget that. My mom died while I was in the room with her. That too is a memory that won't go away.
Time will help to heal. But I hope you give yourself some time to grieve. Let it out.
