What Exactly Does DESTROY Mean?

You know, the Jews were a warlike people. The God they worshipped was entirely different than the loving Father revealed by Jesus.

Hasn't it occured to anyone that when this god of love states that evil will be destroyed, that you will look for it but it will be gone, that what is meant is that the love of God has erased all traces of evil from the person practicing it? You've known people like this; people who were at one time evil and who have rid themselves of it. It's certainly "gone" and can even be referred to as "destroyed." But that doesn't have to mean that God has killed the evildoer - just reformed and reclaimed him.

We're way too fast in wishing destruction on people we consider "evil" and too hopeful that revenge will be had on them instead of taking the attitude of Jesus that God is loving and will reclaim his children - all of them. And in that way evil will indeed be "destroyed."

Some weird things go through my mind sometimes-

Has anyone seen the Truman show?
Maybe we are here for some sort of experiment, maybe we are some sort of living chess board for God or some alien life forms?

Am I becoming a paronoid schitso?

Dont any one dare say YES!

nice thought francoise, but if youre refering to the psalms and what the author had in mind when he wrote it, i think you're reading too much into it. it sounds, as u read it, like the author is really just concerned with the 'evildoers' being destroyed (in all manner of nastiness, mind you) and not so much with them being reformed.

very good thought and very clear explanation. I have often thought
somewhat the same, just not able to get my arms around expressing
    it as you did.

I would do the "Hitler" argument just to see how the Bros. would judge him.
Death for sure, no question. I would tend agree, but who am I to say??
Maybe he had a brain tumor, obviously something was seriously wrong
and maybe, except for the grace of God, there goes the ol battboy.

    love to all

    Hello again to all:

Yes, we do seem to want revenge, which is not such a godly attribute at that. But if you think about it further, it still works in similar areas. For instance, think about that business about the "mark of the beast."

Has anyone else (Batt?) thought along these lines: we are the product of evolution (God created everything. Evolution was his technique) and so as we become (evolve) more and more spiritual, we become less and less material, less animal, less "beast"like. We hardly become spiritualized as a result of our sole effort, but because we cease to resist the spiritualizing efforts of the God who is "within us." Thus the mark of the beast (as a material being) is removed as we become more and more spiritual and less and less animal and on that day when all traces of our animal origin have been crowded out by our spiritualizing nature, the mark of the beast will be gone.

But God will not have "destroyed" his child of animal origin, he would have evolved him to the next step in his evolution: first stage spirit.

What do those of you who are capable of thinking think about it?

    Francoise
