Are You Or Aren't You Still a Witness?

I haven't been to a regular meeting in over 15 years. I attended a few memorials after I stopped associating, but I haven't even been to one of those since '93 or '94. Even so, I'm not DA'd or DF'd. So I guess I'm still a witness. Wasn't Hayden Covington the one who made the statement---in court, I think---that "You're a Jehovah's Witness until we say that you're not." Kinda scary, isn't it? Over the years, I've received maybe half-a-dozen visits from the elders. They've been very friendly and encouraging. No pressure at all-------just nice.

In view of the highly publicized effort to contact all inactive ones, though, I've made a pre-emptive strike by making a sign that says "Day Sleeper----Do Not Disturb", and I've hung it on my front door. I hope that does the trick. My always reliable sources have informed me that the elders in this area have taken their new assignment pretty seriously and have been going down the list calling on everyone that they can. It's too soon to tell if this being done out of "love" or if it's a weeding-out campaign. Either way, I just don't want to have to mess with them.

If you are inactive you are not a JW in God's (whoops WTS eyes) unless you do something to be DF'd for then you are suddenly a member.

Technically, yes. I am not officially DF'd or DA'd. Just inactive. I still get hello's from those JW's I still know. But, it is sad to know that every one of those who say "HI" now would treat me like a leper if told to do so by the higher ups. This is why I refuse to play their game and will not meet with them. I refuse to make it easy for them to judge and bring a verdict on me if I choose by my own free will to silently leave the organization. It is absolutely criminal the way they play judge and jury for God himself. No imperfect human has that right.

I'm not. Haven't been for 15 years. Neither is my wife. Now here's the funny part, we're having a memorial service for my father-in-law this Saturday and our closest friend is an elder. Nina just wants the people who knew Bill to get up and say what he meant to them. Bless his heart, he's wanting to help so much but we told him no outline talk and everyone is limited to 10 minutes (it's being held in Bill's retirement home and they have to start serving lunch).

"But I'll just mention a few scriptures and tell people where they can go to learn more." No.

"Okay, but the outline mentions encourages people besides the speaker to get up and talk." No outline.

"Okay okay, but if I use the outline I can keep my talk down to 20 or 25 minutes." No.

Now I know how all those householders felt all those years I pioneered. Hhhmmmmm, perhaps God does have a sense of humor. Or at least a sense of irony.

    I'm not a JW anymore.

I really don't care what the Watchtower Society (or its worshipers) thinks I am. Many of them started shunning me as soon as news of my divorce made the rounds, even though my ex was the "guilty" party. I wrote about my first experience with shunning here.
