Did y'all see John Oliver last night? It was on this very subject. He was a riot.

Now looking more like a landslide - 183 seats won

Even Calgary gave the Liberals some love for the first time in 50 years!

(yeah, we're the Texas of the north, almost completely blue state)

Always great to see democracy in action. I think we sometimes take it for granted but the idea that a leader and party in power just gives it up and steps aside for the newly elected is a wonderful thing that many in the world don't enjoy.

Well done Canada. Beers all round.

So, Orphan, I'm trying to understand the going back to the polls thing. When would that happen? If parliament is all locked up and won't pass any laws?

I mean, the US has had a do-nothing Congress for years since the conservatives have Congress and we have a liberal president. That's status quo here!

The US system is for the most part whack.

Having one house that needs to pass a bill, which can be killed by the other house, and then vetoed is quagmire.

Canada has two, sometimes three, main parties, There is usually a majority party in the House of Commons, who pass bills. There is a second house, the Senate (appointed, not elected), who can veto the House of Commons, but it is a token vote.

The Prime Minister is the leader of the party with the most seats.

The weather has been positively toasty here in Calgary so that will help turnout

I found it gloomy - my book-view of Lord of the Rings' sky.

Unfortunately here in Australia a change of government doesn't result in much of a change overall these days.

Same here in America. They're all liars.

Well, that means increased taxes and CPP premiums. Trudeau thinks he can spend his way out of the recession. No government has ever done this. Let's see how he does it. Oh joy.
